Soothing Summer White

Whenever I'm having frenetic days I reach for white. It's my 5:00 happy hour, and calms me faster than you can say "margarita"!

It's also the coolest thing for a hot summer day next to an icy drink. But you could indulge both impulses with this vintage black and white enamelware pitcher.

I went to the florist for peonies and found them. But when it came right down to it, the globe mums are what came home with me. It was really the white that I needed.

Another thing I love about white is how it highlights textures and details without the distraction of color. Sometimes I need the sense of harmony too.

So I'm serving my farmhouse pitcher straight up on a bed of lace. A few graphics thrown into the mix keeps things lively, and punctuates the bit of black on the handle. Black and white keeps things crisp. No need for white to be boring.

I hope your're having a spectacular Summer White Wednesday!
Ciao! for now!

A big THANKS to Kathleen for featuring me at
I love White Wednesday!

  1. I recall those pitchers from my childhood. You could hold the side of it against your cheek and it always seemed cool.

  2. You cannot ever show us anything do not know how. The pitcher is simple, functional, and yet beautiful. I would rather have it on the table than cut crystal most days.

  3. I love the fluffy white mums. Makes me want to go out and buy a bunch and put them all over. Very cheerful look.

  4. ...lovin'that enamel pitcher:)
    happy w.w.!

  6. Very beautiful and soothing, as you said. But we did not even make it to 70 today, so it's not the heat we need a refresher from, but the grey! And your white does it perfectly! Kay

  7. Those pictures of the mums are just gorgeous. I really love that enamelware pitcher too. Lovely, lovely linens too. thanks for the inspiration!

  8. Well even though it's cold and raining here *sighs* I still can't ever get enough of beautiful white! (Bet it's even better for the rest of the sweltering country *winks*) Lovely photos! Vanna

  11. Love your whites. I will be doing my dining room in mainly white with a touch of blue. I always thoght white as being a cold color, but now from reading your blog and others I am loving the nice peaceful and relaxing color it can be.

  12. I know my blood pressure just dropped a few numbers just by looking at your soothing and lovely white vingettes. I love anything in white enamel and especially your pitcher.
