Airing the Cupboards

There's a ghosty stillness about the house this morning. It's only the two of us as usual, and we live in a quiet neighborhood anyway. But it feels different today.

I must be channeling the back to school days of years ago. Feeling the unnatural state of the normally unquiet rooms of a buzzing household suddenly falling silent the first day that school starts up again after a bustling summer.

Even the light has changed without me noticing. A new season trying to slip in from behind the lace curtains, or through the crack under the door.

Might as well welcome it in. Let it gather itself up and take up its customary place on the calendar, the walls, the furniture. Bringing its scents, sounds, and color with it in its weathered baggage to dispel the weird hush of an old season passing along its way . . . .

Wishing you a lively first week of September!
Ciao! for now!

  7. Hi J,
Loved peaking behind those closed cupboard doors, loaded with goodies, and those backwards books :-)) I am crazy for Maiden Hair Ferns (but can never grow them), they have such beautiful structure, and the back lighting looks amazing!!
    Have a Special Day!!!

  17. Killer Cupboard! I've got one I've been lusting over & having a Love Affair with every time I have 'visitation' with it at my Friend's Shop... alas, nowhere to put it. *Le Sigh* They make such great storage but I'm afraid I'm at saturation point on large pieces of furniture and so something would have to go to bring something else in. *pouting* I LOVE the quiet, the tranquility, now that the G-Kids are back in School and I finally have some "Me" time in the early part of the day... all I can say is thank goodness for all-day-Kindergarten! *winks* Now the poor Teacher can try to keep up with the Princess! *LOL* Her older Brother decided he wanted to take up the Flute... I'm down with that but almost stroked out at how much musical instrument rentals are now... back in my day *the dark ages I know* they used to let you borrow instruments for free! Ah well, will have to throw more water in the beans... because perhaps he'll be the next Kenny G or R. Carlos Nakai, ya never know?!? *winks*

Hard for me to get into the Fall Spirit entirely since our temps are still exceeding 110 degrees each day... *whew*
