Ladies Spring Luncheon

I'm a Downton Abbey junky. I regularly cue up an episode, watch a few scenes, and then pick up where I left off at my next opportunity. I can tell you that there's an awful lot of luncheoning going on! And Lady Grantham is constantly asking if you will be staying for luncheon.

We still use that archaic term, of course. But we're mostly referring to a more formal or special midday event when we do. At any rate, these Limoges plates of an unknown pattern live up to "luncheon."

This is the airy tablescape I promised. Held appropriately en plein air! The serving table is ready for the food, and is also set up for dessert with vintage glass dishes. Baby's Breath centers the table.

Alyssum from the garden center.

Lots of lace is the order of the day. . . .

The runner I chose for the smaller table was covered up entirely by the settings, so I used it here on the serving table instead.

Romantic Rose Point silver spoons by Wallace. I inherited these from my husband's Mother.

. . . And vintage glassware. The rose napkin rings are by Rachel Ashwell.

Vintage lace trimmed napkins.

A vintage ruffled lace tablecloth is laid over a flocked sheer under layer.

The centerpiece is a six-pack of garden plants inside a square transferware tureen. I'm sorry I forgot the name of the plant! But I love the tiny pink bloom, and ferny nature of the leaves for this table. Keeping live plants in pots for awhile lets you enjoy a centerpiece a lot longer. They sun on the patio in-between.

I took this photo, and the next, from inside, shooting through the lace curtain.

It was fun doing a dressy table like this.
You don't even have to be a duchess--
It just makes you feel like one!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Happy tablescaping!

Jacqueline

  12. Jacqueline: I'm not totally sure but I think your centerpiece might be called "Breath o' Heaven". But, if it isn't, it should be because your tablescape looks heavenly! I understand the next season of Downton Abbey is going to start shortly. I am looking forward to watching it. The Captain and I have been enjoying "The Duchess of Duke Street". Have you seen it, I think you would like it. I get it from Netflix..Happy Thursday..Judy

  28. Oh, Jacqueline.....this is all so pretty! I love the wispiness of the baby's breath and sweet alyssum. (So glad you said that name...another blogger had some on a post today and couldn't remember the name of it. Now if I can just remember who that was, I can go back and let her know!) I haven't watched Downtown Abbey, but I understand it is an excellent program. I like to DVR shows and save them up to watch marathon style in a single day. Same concept as DVD, I guess, but you can at least keep your DVDs forever and watch them over and over in the future. I may have to start doing that. Beautiful serving and dining tables! Have a wonderful, peaceful weekend!

  33. Jacqueline.. absolutely stunning as always. You are so right that the "luncheon" has a wonderful formal ring to it, conjuring up images of hats, gloves and petit fours for desserts. Pretty Limoges and the spoons are to die for. And again, I'm swooning over the linens. They are so pretty. Love your patio and the table! xo marlis

  49. A luncheon worth of Lady Grantham herself! Your setting is breathtaking, Jacqueline! I especially love those plates & tablecloth. What a clever idea to put the plant in a square tureen!
You would have loved the local museum I attended this morning with my kids. It has mostly beautiful old dolls & dollhouses, but they also exhibit fashions from particular eras. Today they had a 'Downton Abbey' exhibit of early 1900's clothing. It was exactly like what they wore on the show!

I just bought some luncheon plates by Royal Worcester and I'am so excited to see your use of the Haviland set. Your china luncheon plates are so lovely with the delicate flowers. Thanks for the trip to England via your garden! Pam
