Adventures in Contentment

I recently came across a sentiment written by David Grayson who lived at the turn of the last century.

He wrote about American rural life under the title Adventures in Contentment.

The idea of adventure in contentment amused me.

But I found sympathy with this exerpt:

"I sometimes think we expect too much of Christmas Day. We try to crowd into it the long arrears of kindliness and humanity of the whole year. As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time, all through the year. And thus I drift along into the holidays--let them overtake me unexpectedly--waking up some fine morning and suddenly saying to myself: "Why, this is Christmas Day!"

David Grayson

With a grown family, I have the luxury of drifting into the holidays-

and taking it all in, a little at a time.

It won't take us by surprise, but I'm wishing contentment for us all!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Ciao! for now!

  14. I have that same luxury. Christmas for me is not the day itself. It's the whole month of decorating and putting out displays and making things. By the time the day actually arrives, I'm worn out!

  15. Jacqueline, I hadn't stopped by in awhile, but when I did this morning, your last several posts were like a breath of fresh air! So beautiful and calming during this "remember to slow down and refocus" time of year. So elegant and gracious. Thanks for sharing and for getting my day off to a wonderful start! My best to you and yours during this holy season.

  18. True. People should be loving and giving year round, not just because the calendar says we should. Thanks for the message. Your decorations are very lovely as well. The silver and red with the glass makes for a stunning presentation.
