Winter White Linen

I know you'll think I'm crazy, but I enjoy getting back to my linen after I've been away for awhile. If you're a gardener or a cook you may have some idea of what I'm talking about. Too long away from the soil or the stove and you're glad to get back at it after a vacation.

My linen collection is present everywhere in my home. It's like someone's knitting that you're always having to move before you sit down, or the sewing mess that's ever present, if you're into that sort of thing. I look at and change linen like some folks look at and change the TV.

I always have stacks and racks ready here and there of pieces that I am considering, or have already considered using for a table or a cover somewhere. The samples here are all on current display in the dining room.

I'm getting a tablescape ready, and there are a few peeks at it here. When I finally get to putting it all together I have to try things on like you would if you were getting dressed for some special occasion. My table tells me what it feels like wearing today. Whatever gets left out of the action doesn't always get put away immediately. If ever.

I think my linen stacks annoy some folks the way dogs are annoying to non-dog lovers. When I was out shopping with my brother-in-law recently and saw some new napkins I loved he said, "Yeah, like you don't have enough napkins. . . ." I laughed pretty hard at that before considering hitting him pretty hard instead! But, I know, I know. . . .  I didn't bring more napkins home. . . . That time. . . .

  15. Oh Jacqueline! You speak my language!! I don't have any where near as much old linens as I long to have, but the ones I do have bring me great joy. I feel a connection to them, and to the people who enjoyed them, or made them before they got to me. What a delight to find a kindred spirit! I have to smack my hand constantly...I would clean out some of the Etsy shops that carry hand loomed lusciousness!!

My daughter even told me that maybe I just needed to roll around in my linen! LOL!! So I took out a larger piece, and wrapped it around my shoulders! It was a good laugh. One day, I hope to have my bed covered in vintage linens. I have one very old French metis sheet that I will use, and need to get some more.

Love your photos, and appreciate you linking up to Blissful Whites Wednesday!

    Have a lovely day!

  18. Beautiful linens...
I am so bad that I hauled a damask(small) tablecloth and 2 napkins to a FISH CAMP...to serve our Thanksgiving dinner...
Sweet husband first thought I had lost my mind, and then considered the source ;^)

  19. Love your beautiful linens!! My motto is - you can never have too much pretty lace, dolies, or linens. That's always the first thing I look for when out shopping the antique shops. Enjoy all of yours, they are indeed comfort to the soul.

  27. You do have such beautiful linens, Jacqueline, and I'm with you: you can never have too many! (And yes... before I even open my door after a journey I'm usually seen bending over in the garden to pull at a weed or check on a flower.) My favorite home chore is ironing, and never moreso than when I'm pressing all my old linens. I think it's lovely to have them out, and to use them, either at the table or for display. They are too beautiful to keep bundled up where no one can enjoy them. (I would have been at your other shoulder, egging you on to buy the napkins!)

  31. Jacqueline: Your whites always make me happy. I don't understand how anyone could be unhappy about seeing that kind of beauty. Now, I totally understand when someone (namely hubby)says that about my stacks of magazines..Happy Monday..Judy
