I didn't expect to see San Diego beaches for the fourth time this year, but when the invitation came I didn't hesitate too much. The Hotel Del Coronado is prettier than ever all decked out for Christmas. And the Thanksgiving buffet was wonderful! I've never had a better traditional meal. But the menu was quite extensive for those who wanted something more.
The Del was booked to capacity, and I kept imagining the place as a huge cruise ship. The crowds were somewhat daunting, and not at all like the quiet home celebration that I thought we would have.
Weather in the eighties on the beach. A beautiful fog was moving in and changed the look of everything by morning.
Twilight proved the best time for a few shots. The hardest part was jockeying for position on the sidewalk! But I still managed to take too many. I fell under the spell of The Del once more. . . .
The wood floors in the old section of the Victorian building have a pleasant creak, and when things quiet down late at night you can just imagine the former grandeur.
The hotel shops are fantastic, but I was too busy and too generally dazzled to take photos. My favorite was the Christmas shop.
It seems that every single visitor took a photo of the tree in the foyer.
Nothing like starting the season with a bang!
Now I'm ready to hang a few lights of my own.
But I think I may have to look for some snow. . . .
Lots to catch up on!
Thanks so much for coming by!
Jacqueline
Jacqueline, the Coronado is a beautiful hotel. We've been several times, but the last time we attended a wedding there on the beach. It was a wonderful venue for a wedding. Fun to see these images with it all lit. Thanks for sharing.........Sarah
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Gorgeous Christmas tree. So festive. I am like you, I always image what it must have been like in the days gone by. Thanks for these photos. You have inspired me to go back to San Diego and go in this time!

ReplyDeleteThe beach photo is stunning.
thank you Jaqueline.
Aw, sweet memories~~I lived in San Diego for years, and the Dell is a family "favorite place"~~my second daughter honeymooned there. So beautiful, any time, but none more so than Christmas at night.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I'm in San Diego I have to visit the Del. I have never stayed there -- it's on my list of things to do! Looks lovely during the holidays!
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline, What a gorgeous place to be this time of year. Your pics are amazing and inspiring. Love that staircase.
ReplyDeleteI love San Diego. My hubby and I renewed our wedding vows in SD for our 30th year and this August 2013 we will celebrate our 40th. Maybe a trip back is in order. That hotel looks vintage perfect.
Have a special day.
Hugs, Celestina Marie
What a nice surprise for you ~ we've stayed there a few times, or enjoyed lunch on the terrace in warm weather.
ReplyDeleteHope you thoroughly enjoyed not being at the store (:

Hello Jacqueline
ReplyDeleteCelebrating Thanksgiving at this fine hotel must have been very special.
It has been years since we visited San Diego - I am looking forward to returns.

I love the hotel! That is just such a beautiful place! :D
ReplyDeleteHugs,
This is such a beautiful hotel and I love all the white lights outlining everything. It would be a thrill to see it and to dine there! I missed a few of your recent post so just scrolled down through them. I love the one with the pink Christmas balls! They are so pretty. I'm all decked out here now but I still keep tweaking things. :)
ReplyDeleteJacqueline,
ReplyDeleteAh~h~h, so romantic, dear friend!!! I love the lights and the music of the Christmas Season!!! Your photos are exquisite!!!
Fondly,
Pat
What a beautful hotel, Jacqueline! You must have had a wonderful time there. How lovely that you were able to get away again and enjoy the warm weather as well as an early taste of Christmas... the best of both worlds!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome place! I imagine that even without the lights, it's spectacular! That tree is fabulous! Stunning decorations - thank you for sharing! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline. We usually spend the month of January in San Diego and one of my favorite places is Coronado Island and the Del. I just feel transported to another time within those walls. Such a beautiful place and as we won't go this year, I will miss it. The Christmas decorations are all put away by January. I bet they were really beautiful..Happy Monday..Judy
