Old Septembers

It's still hot here, but not sizzling. The light has changed, and the nights have cooled off.  I would love a year filled with Septembers if it was offered up to me.

I like woodsy things this time of the year, and we spent most of September in a cabin north of  Santa Fe in the Pecos two years ago.

We brought some of our woodsy collections with us to make things homey, and had a fine time in the cool mountain air.

It's so easy to turn your focus to the fall things of life. September is the payoff month of country fairs, garden harvests, and fresh apple pies. And it's the reward that rises up after a too hot summer, or after the mild disappointment sets in that the months of freedom and sunny pleasures are at an end.

The windows get flung open to cool evening breezes and wonderful sleeping weather. This was our guest room welcoming visitors of another September. . . .

With a few cabin vignettes mixed in. . . .

My first September tablescape held a little suggestion of the bounty of the season.

It reminded me of how I love the gradual turning inward toward so many things to be glad of. The sort of feeling you get after a long sojourn when you're headed home. . . .

Welcome back September!

Are you beginning to settle into fall things too?
I hope you're enjoying a perfect weekend.

Jacqueline

"Mr. Ed" and I take our annual vacation in September every year!!! Perfect weather! The natural elements of this post are calling to me...the fisherman's creel, the plaid throw on the chair...fresh air and windows and doors flung open! Totally refreshing!

Well said.September is a freebie month. The month of cooler climes, but cloaked in the midst of Summer and Fall.
    Enjoy...

  8. Such a nice way to think about it all! You are a poetic soul! I agree with your sentiments 100% and I love your cozy guest room. Michigan settles in to nice 70 degree temps and upper 50 to mid 60's at night. We're enjoying those wonderful temps for sleeping and opening the windows as you've described. Our weekend is quite perfect here.....the temps are fabulous and the sun is shining with no rain or humidity. I'm going to savor each and every day of this month!

  16. In my younger days, I disliked fall. It meant the end of carefree summer days. Now that I'm older, I see the beauty of this season with different eyes, and it's become my favorite.

Beautiful images in the soft tones of autumn!

  24. Yes, I am settling into September and the autumn season. I love this time of year. The beautiful Fall foliage is amazing to see. It is also a time of pumpkin and apple picking. Autumn is a great lead in to two of my favorite holidays which are Thanksgiving and Christmas.

  26. This is such a lovely post, Jacqueline, filled with images that remind me of how much I love the Autumn. It's so nice to feel a little chilly at night. And the gardens are putting out such beautiful seeds and pods and berries. (The birds and squirrels must be licking their chops!) Enjoy these last days of summer and these "almost Fall" nights.

  27. That photo of your guest room with the cream cotton blankets, and fresh white ruffled edge pillow cases is just divine... Love the wicker chair with the little throw on the seat too, and that amazing basket.
You're right, fall is pretty darn wonderful, nearing winter is sad, but this time of year just does everything glorious thing to distract us and soften the blow...
