The Romantic Whites of Autumn

One of my favorite things ever is old white embossed china. I look for it all the time. I usually find it only one piece at a time here and there in a forlorn pile somewhere. The older the better. I love it in all shades. I was lucky enough to find a few dinner plates in a nice shop recently. These are Rose Point by Pope Gosser. So soulful. I was happy to pay a real price for them since they hardly ever show up in good enough condition in sets. ($10.00 each.) As it is, these also have a few minor dings.

Even white comes in the hues of the season. Luscious ivory's and creams have a warmth that matches the moods of fall.

I was also excited to find this gorgeous victorian lace top on my recent travels. It was the only thing that came home with me.

I would be content just to enjoy it on a hanger, but it will be a good fit for the little girls when they visit and play dress up. I love every sumptuous detail! It looks like Irish lace to me. What do you think?

One of the cozy nursery bears is modeling a darling pinafore I found in an out of the way thrift shop for four dollars. Vintage doll clothes in white are another item I always have my radar set for. There are closeup details of it further on in this post.

I have shown this vintage gown on the blog before. Don't you love pretty eyelet hems?

The bears love dressing up too!

Crepey dried white roses have such romance, and seem to sigh of a season now past. . .

. . . as autumn light plays with us at the windows.

Are you warming up to the romance of fall too?
We're off for a walk in the woods this afternoon!
I hope your day is lovely too. . .

  5. Jacqueline: It all looks so beautiful. Just like melted vanilla ice cream. The white dishes are wonderful. I'm off now to make white bean and rosemary soup, to be eaten out of white bowls, but none as pretty as yours..Happy Thursday..Judy

  16. I love the dried crepey white roses. I am going to start looking for them too. I also love the plates. I love pretty feminine plates but I had to put a screeching halt on buying them because I have so much of them already.

  17. Hello Jacqueline. This is such a gorgeous post. Love your plates - I am with you - the old white plates are most definitely worth collecting - the lace top is exquisite - beautiful find. I love the color of the faded rose - it does speak of the season past...beautiful vignette. I hope you have a marvelous weekend,

  20. Such lovely, romantic images of early Autumn, Claudia. Your embossed white plates are so beautiful, and will be so easy to use in nearly any setting. I found a set of creamy white embossed ironstone one year and I love using it on its own or mixing it up with other colors. (My bears like to play dress up, too! And many of them have to wear spectacles.... eye problems...) Wishing you a lovely and restful first weekend of Fall!

  21. ACK!?!?!? I said Claudia but meant Jacqueline. Good lord. I need more sleeeeeeeeeeep. Please forgive me! *crossing eyes* Once again I try to multi task when its a well-known fact of life that I can barely uni-task....

  25. I was so smitten with that lace top (which is amazing, I have a collar in a similar pattern) then you said those were dry roses, I honestly thought they were crepe paper or coffee filter. So big so white (why do my white roses dry brown?). All so lovely and the dishes, yummy...
    Hugs..
