French Blue Father's Day

I think Father's Day is supposed to be all about leather and tools, but I don't see why it can't be a day for a pretty table too! My husband's favorite color is blue. And I've been really drawn to blue this summer. So blue it is!

I always believe I am going for simplicity. But by the time everything is arranged, my table often betrays the truth about my love for layers and details. Lately a sweet small bunch of different flowers has pleased me more than anything else. And Bella's Rose Cottage's  garden blues have had a big influence on me.

The pale hues are where it's at for me, and I've had this light blue check cloth from Williams-Sonoma for several years now. The soup/salad bowls and plain cotton napkins are WS too. You can take basic whites in any color direction. The frenchy quilted mats underneath are a fun foil for all the straight lines. And I love a padded surface for meals. The rose napkin rings are old Rachel Ashwell from Target.

The soup tureen is a family heirloom.

Vintage flatware.

The "Father" plate is an antique saucer for a large cup. The smaller plate is an antique butter pat. The flowers are dried larkspur stocks.

There are almost always layers of linens on the table. I like to change things a lot and also have a bit of drape.

I hope you have a lovely time on Father's Day whatever you do!

  5. I've obviously been focused on blues of late too ~ French Blues and Bay House Blues. ;-) So this table is definitely making me smile. Beautiful flowers and dishes. I love the way you capture the special details in your images. Very artistic, as if these are exquisite oil paintings.

Very tranquil and pastel purity tablescape!I adore the blue plaid tablecover mixed with the floral placemats. The layers of linen beneath are so soothing! Your husband is a fortunate man to have you design a table around his favorite hue! Hope his day is spent with those he loves around your table!

  24. My dear Jacqueline,

This table spread for Father's Day is so very vivid and breathtakingly beautiful. The still life imagery of reflective surfaces, blue quilted placement mats and pink flowers petals scattering across the table...you pull me into a world, without any hemming and hawing, where I can never see the mystery coming to an end.

    Best wishes, ASD
