When we visited our neice in New York City she spoke about how different it was from home in California, and how hard it had been to make new acquaintances after their recent move. But she loves many things about her life in the city, and mentioned two things in particular that were cheap to acquire: flowers and manicures.
Well, you could do worse. Flowers and manicures will almost get you through if you have your companion with you!
I once heard a quote from an unapproving source that "if a woman has nail polish, she has too much time on her hands." Now, I'm not one to miss pearl pink on my fingertips, but I would certainly not want to go too long without fresh flowers.
They're not on every corner for cheap here like NYC, but you don't have to go far. They can be surprisingly affordable from the grocery store.
I'm full of envy of folks who can grow their own year round. And when flowers do grow in my own yard they are so sparse I hate to cut a single bloom as they will last so much longer on the plant.
But a bouquet of roses in winter seems as essential as paying the gas bill to me. Flowers are a utility of the heart. Even a man who might feel they are an over-indulgence won't ask, "What are you going to do with those?"
As for manicures. . . . Well, different strokes. . . .
Happy Monday!
Roses or manicures, I hope your week is good.
Jacqueline

What a great reminder that I should buy some flowers! I don't wear polish either but I can't got very long without a pedicure! Those pink blooms are gorgeous
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about flowers, and roses are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteHugs Bente
Your roses look so beautiful!! I love it with all your white.
ReplyDeleteKathy
Your niece is right flowers and manicure are inexpensive in NYC! But everything else is very expensive! It looked like you had a nice time. Laura Your flowers are beautiful by the way.
ReplyDeleteI'll take roses(any flowers). Beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteLol I'am single so over the weekend, I took myself to the Tea Shop bought me a pretty Tea Cup and saucer and two pretty Hankies and a wonderful Blue Tea Pot stain glass piece to hang in my window...And two small bouquets of white with pink tips. LOL I was on my way to get a manicure and pedi, which I like to do on occasion just to feel good. I love flowers just as you and I feel the same about my garden flowers but I do occasionally pick them for my kitchen window...I think it's just a matter of what you like most...You always have such beautiful photos and the roses are divine...Have a great week with Love Janice
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline! Lovely photos and roses. I'd pick fresh flowers over a manicure any day. In fact, I haven't had a manicure in 3 1/2 years! Yikes! That's a little too long isn't it. Have a great week! Blessings, Pamela
ReplyDeleteFlowers, manicures -- LOTS of things are inexpensive in NYC and nearby. Really! You just need to know where to go.
ReplyDeleteBut as for meeting people -- if your niece got a nice sweet shelter dog, and took her/him for regular walks, she would soon know everyone in her neighborhood!
Worked for us, anyway!

I had a nurse friend who said " Art is flowers on the table." I think I wrote a post on it and she is right and so are you.
ReplyDeleteJacqueline ~ I so agree. You can buy flowers pretty well anywhere and even if you can't afford expensive ones, you can still indulge, bring them home and have a lovely cup of tea and enjoy them. Love your roses. I'm just about ready to get myself a dozen ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour pink roses are so beautiful! I used to buy a bunch every grocery day but have stopped for some reason.. seeing these makes me want to start again. Take care and don't forget to stop and smell the roses! ; )

ReplyDeletethe roses look really lovely
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of whites with texture. I really like the honeycomb glass bottle....yummy.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI guess, I never been here b4. But I am happy I drop by. OMG, I can't get enough of your fantastic post & home. So much inspirations.
Yes, BIG city and neighbouring cities have absolutely big difference. One thing I hate in a big city, is STRESSING OUT OF MY LIFE. Everything and everybody runs & pushing.... I prefer to live in a quite suburb.
Have TTT...
Greetings from chilly Stockholm,
