Summertime just calls for an ode to laundry, and it's been a while since I've done one. We have the perfect weather for it in Albuquerque today. Lovely and calm, and in the high eighties after a couple of pretty blustery and hot days.
I promised a better look at the wonderful quilt I found on my last trip to Santa Barbara, CA., and here it is. Right at home with a couple of zinc washtubs that I found flea-ing a few months ago. I'm in love with all the weathered grey.
A lacey throw gets an airing. . .
and a sweet basket full of vintage napkins and towels.
It's a good day for festooning things in trees and among the bushes. Either to dry, or to set a scene. (The hanging willow wall basket is from Cost Plus.)
I came across this beautiful antique apron with a handmade trim some time ago for a pittance. I think it just needs a day in the sun. There's so much romance in a pretty old apron, don't you think?
An old pitcher and washbasin completes the scene.
With the fragrance of roses wafting in the still air, I'm ready to call it an old fashioned washday. . .
Such a lovely day in June. I hope you're having one too!
Thanks so much for paying me a visit. It really makes my day!
Have a great week ahead. . .

I love your beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhile living in Wyoming in 1997 for 7 months, I literally did all of my laundry by hand, including jeans. Everything got hung out to dry. Although it was a lot of work, it was an adventurous change (for a period of time).
Beautiful setting you created.
Blessings, Cindy
The quilt is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAll the grey, zinc, white, with just that splash of pink rose is amazingly beautiful!
The quilt was a fantastic find but I also love the zinc containers, the washboard and everything else. So many gorgeous pieces.

Hi Jacqueline, there is nothing better then a summer wash day and you create it beautifully and weave memories in at the same time. Love your linens and the gorgeous bowl and pitcher.
ReplyDeleteThis all takes me back to my grandma's garden helping her hang the laundry and then sitting under the grape arbor and watching the pretties wave in the breeze.
Just lovely my friend.
Hugs
Good morning, Jacqueline!
ReplyDeleteOh, that quilt is gorgeous! In fact, it all is!
I can't imagine doing more than the delicates by hand today, but you make it all look so romantic and beautiful! And is there anything more wonderful than the smell of laundry dried on the line? Pure heaven! :)
Have a beautiful day!
xo,
Lin
To die for. Every single photo. Linens and pitchers and washbowls. Yes, to die for.
ReplyDeletea "lovely day in June" indeed! and you just made MINE a whole lot lovelier! ;)
ReplyDeleteJacqueline,
ReplyDeleteAs you know, dear friend, I'm not an out~of~doors person, but I do love the aroma of freshly laundered linens from the line.
I remember as a child driving through the countryside on a Sunday afternoon with my parents and seeing a man's suit and a ladies dress hanging from the tree in the side yard. At the ripe age of seven, I ask my MoMa why someone would do such a thing. She told me they were airing out their clothing after being stored in moth balls. I tried it with one of my sweaters the next week and my MoMa said, my your sweater smells good! I really thought I'd done something amazing!
Thanks for sharing your lovely quilt, apron, lacey throw and so many more wonders!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Wonderful memories are evoked by this beautiful post. I remember running through the lines of white sheets with their soft scent and billows.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful post Jacqueline! Your new quilt is so pretty. Now I am anxious to have a nice hot summer day to get all my linens out and wash and hang them in the sun to bleach. This post has inspired me!
