VACATION !!

My picnic blanket is an old vintage coverlet. I always imagine it on a cabin bunkhouse bed with old twig furniture. It's worn and soft now with a few stains so it can be lugged around without fussing over it too much. I like having vintage things you can actually USE!

The pillow cover is vintage too. The smocking on it looks like it would be lots of fun to do. It's in mint condition, like new, with lots of life left! Red checks are so cheery!

I love old jars. There's so much you can do with them, both practical and decorative. I just had to have this one with the RED lid. Perfect for messing around outside where you don't want to spill things on your blanket! So much better than PLASTIC!

I found this old suitcase with the sides all torn up, so I papered it with one of my favorite travel themes. Luggage tags! Old luggage is perfect for storage of all kinds. You can pack up your picnic stuff and grab a handle and go. Stow books and magazines, whatever and then use the top as a table! Stuff it all back in and back home you go!

I imagine that I snitched it from some Ralph Lauren display! haha The vintage linen tea towel with the red stripe is practical for tons of stuff too. Since paper towels came into vogue you don't see towels schlepped around very much, but I have tons! Indispensable when you have kids around and very eco-friendly. Makes me feel very responsible while I'm indulging myself!

Oh the romance of the golden age of travel! Love it!

What's better than an icy drink on a hot afternoon!

I just about wet my pants when I found these old croquet mallets! I encounter a lot of them here and there but almost NEVER with the dark wood. Here I go with the RALPH fantasies again!

I guess croquet has become one of our "granny camp" standbys. They are a kid magnet even if you're not playing a game. Don't you love the sound of smacking a wooden ball?

Where would you plant your picnic?

Ciao! for now! Thanks for stopping by! Hope your vacation is good too!

  6. Wow, your gorgeous photos look like they belong in Romantic Homes Magazine! I love the iced tea in the vintage jar, and the suitcase is awesome! Did it come with all of those neat travel stickers on it, or is that one of your creations? Love it!

  7. Hi Donna! Thank you for the compliment! I am a true vintage luggage fanatic! This suitcase had extensive damage to the side leathers when I found it. The interior is pristine. So I totally covered it with repro stickers on both sides. It's one of my favorite things! JQ

  14. Love your reds! My kids always loved playing crochet, but especially a game they made up using all the stuff--they would play all summer long and would have such a blast! Love that you get to use old things--does it not give you a really nice feeling? Thanks for stopping by Spindle cottage (one of my blogs). My computer is down so I am just catching up on hubby's tiny notebook!

  21. I love it all! I tried doing the smocking on gingham and was only slightly successful. That was way back, probably 40 years ago, at least. My grandmother could smock beautifully and did that type of work on the dresses she made for us when we were just little chickies.

  33. Now that looks like the perfect way to spend a summer day! I love what you said about the towels being eco friendly but something that is pampering at the same time. I don't often think of the two things together.
