Romancing the Roses

I always wanted to be one of those ladies with limitless garden roses of my own strewn all over the house. For one shining moment this week it all came true. Pinch me! Or rather stick me. Lots of thorns for all my pleasure.

To my astonishment the bushes have run wildly exuberant this spring, so I put together an arrangement to show them off instead of having little vases everywhere.

The pale pinks are David Austin Bride's Dream. They are more white than pink this year so they probably need something. Any ideas? The others are David Austin Lichfield Angel.

I had to do a serious impromptu prune of the Angels as they were swamping the Dreamers. Here they have arranged themselves. I just love the free and loose nature of homegrown roses.

My little shelf was happy to get a bit of a dust off and something new to wear for the season. Long overdue.

Like "chopping wood warms you twice",  I have gotten an all day high from first picking the blooms early in the morning, then the pleasure of arranging a display for them, and finally seeing what emerged from the camera after.

So happy to share with you! I hope my romancing the roses brings a little lift to you too!

Many more lovely May Days ahead!

Happy weekend to you!

Jacqueline

  2. Each picture is just stunning with the white on the shelves and then the addition of the gorgeous roses. I love it all. My roses are just beginning, so I just have brought in enough for a few bud vases. Love this season from the garden.

  10. This must be one of the most fragrant rooms in all New Mexico -- it is certainly one of the loveliest! I don't grow roses well so seeing this really makes me smile.
