Early or late. The first rainy afternoon after the leaves begin to fall is filled with magic.
It would be a shame to be shopping or in traffic when a squall drives through, because peering through your own homey windows in the changed atmosphere is a delight.
A symphony of rain, thunder, and hail sweeps through, followed by the wonderful fragrance of sage and something minty.
The darkened sky leaves a shower of little round jewels behind as a token of what is to come in bleaker days. The flow of seasons is nature's gift, and I feel lucky to be at home today to receive it.
I will miss the heat rising from the warm earth, but who would want to be absent at the turning of the ivy?
Or to deny the first blush of a romance with autumn?
Thanks for joining in the rhapsody!
I hope it's turning onto a great week for you!

Lovely photos, Jacqueline...my vines are turning color now, too...so pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the muted colors of your vines!!
ReplyDeleteJacqueline, your rhapsody taking place in your garden is like little canvas paintings with all the mystery in its black drop. Love the metal chairs up against the stone wall and in its relaxed setting of garden foliage, the light that shadows on the top of the wall edge is beautiful. It looks like a wonderful season for you, all the rain does your garden good, please send some of it our way :)
ReplyDeleteSee you soon.

Such gentle fall touches around you. I like the rustic feel of your photos. Lantana is a favourite annual of mine and I always buy a few for containers every summer. Sadly, they are done for the season after a few heavy frosts. Happy Wednesday to you.

ReplyDeleteGreat job for turning what some would say to be a gloomy day into something beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely autumn photos. The deep red of the ivy is so vibrant. I liked the rustic pieces you have. I have many similar in my garden.
ReplyDeleteAre the flowers Lantana? Hail?! I am surprised you got hail!

Jaqueline,
ReplyDeleteIt has been a dreary day here on the Prairie.
Rain is predicted, but we've only had a spotty sprinkle.
Still, you can feel the "change of Season" in the air!!!
Gorgeous photos, dear friend!!!
I'm thankful I live where we can celebrate all four Seasons!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Jacqueline, I feel lucky to be a reader of your blog. We are having just such a day here, though the rain is gentle when it comes. I've hardly left my perch on the love seat by the bay window. I savor this kind of day, all too rare. Thanks for sharing these exquisite words and images. Your words offer a sense of poetic whispers. Enjoy the season.

ReplyDeleteLovely to see a fall day in your part of the world.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful colors! I can't grow pink hydrangeas to save my soul! And I loved the milk can, too -- and the ivy! Oh, the ivy! What joys I'm experiencing this moment in your part of the world!
ReplyDeleteI donned a sweatshirt immediately when I arose this fine morning. I actually asked Steve to turn on the heater.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely it is when the Boston Ivy starts to turn colors and you have caught it in your photos beautifully. Also the Lantana, aren't they the most wonderful plants, providing color almost year around. It looks like you are having a beautiful autumn.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE rain and fall leaves!! I just went out to the front walk and took pictures of ours because it has been raining for a few days with the leftovers from that hurricane. You always capture the thoughts of my heart with your posts Jacqueline! Such a kindred spirit! Thanks for joining Home Sweet Home!
