I guess I'm pretty "make do" when it comes to decorating. We've had this wing chair for over fifteen years now. It's white, and it's never had a new upholstery job. That's not a boast. It's long over due.
You clever gals out there would have made a slipcover ages ago. But that's just not where I'm at. I've seen this lace treatment a hundred times, and I don't know why I never did it before. I throw covers over everything else! The nice thing about it is how the lace clings to the shape. I've never tried a throw on this chair that really did it for me until now. It's had its trial run, and stays put like I need it to. Hooray!
Since it's time for White Wednesday, I'm sharing other white things nearby too.
A few magazines get put here.
The hearth . . .
A recent find . . .
The window seat . . .
My favorite corner of the world. Picture me here. I won't be sitting here too much for the next little while though. We are having a family wedding and a week long family reunion in a week's time. All seven of our children and their families will be home. There's a current TV commercial running where some guy is trying to find an internet connection (or such) in a "shoe" house and a hundred children are running around. I rather imagine that's what this place will look like soon. *Smile* Wish me luck!
Have a great week!
Jacqueline

ReplyDeletewhat a great chair transformation. I could never handle a white chair!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. You have such a nice touch. I always enjoy the bits a pieces you share. The lace is far more interesting than the usual throws people try to tuck onto a chair. At least yours doesn't have bears! LOL
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wild week is coming up! Enjoy the wedding!
Hi Jacqueline,

Your chair looks so pretty with the lace covering. I like that idea. I know you'll have a wonderful time with all your family home. It may seem crazy at times, but what's not to love about that!

Jacqueline,
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea for a quick fix!
Looks pretty and comfy! Big diff from where I've been blogging! Since our TV in the family room's gone out, I've been up in the "boys" bonus room sitting in Aaron's big, ugly but very comfy faux leather brown recliner. Not pretty, but it suits my purpose and rear! Love all your whites and transfer ware!

ReplyDeleteMaybe when everyone is there...you might get to sit there early in the morning and have a sip of coffee in silence? Or cradle a grandchild?
who knows. But it looks ready for you whenever you are there to take a load off!
Pat
The lace piece looks absolutely lovely on this chair! I've never seen this done and I just love it! The chair looks really comfy, too, I can see why you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteYou have 7 children? I'm one of seven and we had a very "lively" home! Have a wonderful time at the wedding and reunion!
XO,
Jane
Thats not a bad idea the chair looks pretty good, have a good time at your family get together and wedding.
ReplyDeleteMerle..............
Oh, I have got to push my sister to go through our mother's linen closet. Your lacy throw is the exact pattern as our Thanksgiving/Christmas/Easter tablecloth. I know there was more than one and I just have to have it after you brought back such a wonderful memory.
ReplyDeleteThe chair looks beautiful and comfortable. I think crochet lace is always a good idea ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time with your family!
You have now a charming corner with your personal touch. The armchair looks definitely fine and I like the fact that you invents your universe in the way you want and not as you can found in the stores.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the family's reunion and take care Jacqueline !
Hugs, Olympia
I think the lace throw looks perfectly at home on the chair Jacqueline. Love the suitcase under the chair too.

don't forget to enjoy the moments!! I don't have 7 children, but we did have two of our four daughters get married last summer and it was quite the whirlwhind with showers and such. if you can't take pictures, have someone take them at every opportunity, I love looking back on the pictures now and remembering those special times. that said, GOOD luck!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is perfect. I think slipcovers are way over rated. Enjoy your week :)
ReplyDeleteLovely chair cover, you may have started a new trend! Enjoy your family reunion.
ReplyDeleteYour chair looks lovely, with or without the lace.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your family.
*Smiles*
What a pretty idea to put a lace cover on your chair, Jacqueline--I love it! If I tried it, though, I'm not sure it would survive our cats investigating it, but I could be wrong. Have fun at your reunion and family wedding--sounds like it will be a great time.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly know how to "make do" because your chair looks very pretty dressed in lace. Love the white flowers sitting next to it as well. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your blogging chair with the lace thrown over it. It looks like an excellent place to sit and write and/or read. Your room is lovely.
ReplyDeleteJudy
Love the look, but as one of those Princess and Pea people, I suspect the crochet would not make it comfortable for a long sit for me. Also, my Pom would be very disappointed with me if I stuck a suitcase in her spot (under the chair at my feet). On the other hand, my issue with my chair might be that the poor old thing just needs some new padding - when you feel the wood under your arms, probably time to get with the program and fix it up. Thanks for the inspiration though - been loving all the pretties you've been sharing lately.
ReplyDeleteJacquelie,
ReplyDeleteLove the throw on the chair, so romantic!!!
My MoMa use to say," I don't know if I'm happier to see you all come...or happier to see you all go!" With each birthday, I understand more and more and more!!!
EnJOY your company and festivities!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Great solution to throw the lace onto the chair ... but I'm totally in love with the transferware chamberpot! My husband thinks I'm a bit nuts for collecting chamberpots, but I can't help it. They come in great shapes and designs, and are generally WAY cheaper than other sorts of ironstone and porcelain ware.
ReplyDeleteAwwwww, i love your chair, and the lace looks beautiful on it, the soft white with the color underneath is so pretty. And GOOD LUCK! Sounds like you are going to have a house full!!
ReplyDeleteCindy
Hi Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteLove the white lace on your wing chair. It looks perfect. I have several large crocheted lace piece that I do the same thing. In fact I have that same wing chair in a dark red plaid. I found a gorgeous queen size lace bedspread at an antique market and I cover it with that treasure. It's big enough to hang to the floor. I like it better then a reupholster job. LOL
Gorgeous and inspiring pics as always. Enjoy all your family events and have fun.
Hugs, CM
HELLO JACQUELINE
ReplyDeleteI love your lace covered chair.
It gives it much character.
Enjoy your family reunion
Helen xx
Always a joy to see more of your beautiful style. I can picture you sitting there. '-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the festivities of the wedding.
The lace covering the chair is just gorgeous, what a clever and creative idea. I love all of your wonderful vignettes too. Beautiful. Hugs, marty
ReplyDeleteJacqueline,
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your chair! The lace over it is stunning! I "inherited a wingback chair a few months ago and I love it. It may end up with lace on it as well. It was from My SonInLaws grandmother, also a woman I knew well since as long as I can remember. So it is a special chair to me. All your white htings are so ovely and calming.....So comfy and relazing!
Hearts to you!
Betsy
Sounds like you have a great week ahead with your family! Just think how cozy that chair will feel after all the festivities!
ReplyDeleteThe lace is perfect and gives the chair such a warm, homey look.
ReplyDeleteThis corner is so lovely, Jacqueline... a perfect study in white. And I do love your solution for that chair! The black and white pot is so pretty. A nice find!
