Scripty Paper Flowers

A while back I showed you a few paper flowers I made from tissue thin vintage book pages here. These are even simpler, and are made from the ubiquitous round coffee filter! You no doubt have seen paper flowers like these around before. I've never seen a tutorial myself, but I messed around and used my own method.

My coffee machine doesn't use this type of filter, and I might not buy them just to make flowers, but I found this stack at the thrift store for a dollar (actually two!) and thought I'd try something fun.

I first laid out each filter flat and stamped them randomly with a large script rubber stamp that I already had.

I used three layered filters for each flower. The center filter I folded loosely in half and rolled loosely just a bit before scrunching them all together in the center at the base.

A pipe cleaner would be good to tie these off and to use for a stem if you want to display them that way, but I didn't want these to cost anything. I don't buy craft supplies much. Are pipe cleaners cheap? I just used string to tie them. They're all ready for stringing as a garland or gluing to some project or popped in a bowl, etc., etc., etc..

I liked the look of sheet music too. I already had that large rubber stamp too. I would find smaller stamps too tedious to use for this project!

I experimented with stamping both sides, but I didn't like that look as much. I have also seen them tea stained which would look cool. Glittering the edges would be pretty. (And messy!) But hey, go for it!

These are the stamps I used. . . . My goodness, I am feeling so crafty!  *smile*
Hope you've got time for a little fun too!

  2. Very pretty! The script gives it a lot of romanticism! I have seen natural coffee filters in the stores, a very light brown, they would make pretty flowers.

  11. These flowers are so pretty & would
go so well with Romantic French decor! I've seen several flower ideas made from coffee filters, usually
died in soft colors but yours is the first I've seen done with the stamps. It is my favorite & I need to give it a
    try.
    Thanks for the inspiration!!

  24. That's such a wonderful project, Jacqueline. I love the tissue flowers you've made in the past but these are even more beautiful. I keep those filters on hand, too, to use for lining tins or festive boxes when I give food items away. Now you've inspired me to try them this way with some of the stamps I have.
