More White For Winter

You hardly ever see this corner of my sitting room because the northern light is so bad  for photos. There's a wall of shutters directly across from this cabinet.

It's nearly February and I only just put away my white bottle brush trees! You can see a post with them on the cabinet here. The white frames were just leaning against a wall in the hallway, and I liked the look of them just randomly stacked there, so I decided to move them to the top of the cabinet. They were also on the hearth earlier in winter and you can see them here.

The ironstone collection is also encroaching a little into this room for now as well.

I've got a case of cabin fever. The landscape is all bare and brown. And I hate to be disloyal to my home town, but winter is not its best looking season!

Prints make me even more restless when I'm spending a lot of time indoors. Suddenly nothing seems to go together for some reason! (Does that happen to you?) So white is wonderfully soothing to me. (My throw is a thrift store find.)

It's a blustery and overcast day. We are getting into the windy season here. It seems to last until May. The electricity just flickered on and off! We may be stoking up a fire before evening comes . . . .

And here's my mohair scarf all done! I'll be starting up some new project soon.

I'm settling in with a nice big mocha.
How do you beat the winter blahs?

Hope you're off to a good week!

Jacqueline

  1. I too love white and cream and gray. Every wall in my house is white....I've tried 'color' but ending painting over it....white. Love that popcorn coverlet and your ironstone collection.

  6. Your post makes me feel at peace. Nothing like white to soothe the soul. Makes me feel like sitting in front of a fireplace with a white throw. Your thrift store throw is just what I need. Love, love the ironstone. Your photos are great!

  9. What a pretty throw. Luv the popcorn design. Your whites are so peaceful.... Cabin fever and winter blahs, alas I traded all that for sunshine and a brief winter. I learned very early in my 20's that I needed the sunshine in order to feel good. It was a hard decision, but I made a move to North Central Florida and have sun pretty much all year round.
Will send you some Florida warmth and sunshine.

  10. We are having such lovely weather this week,I can't remember how cold winter was, because we have had so much heat since then. At least it's lovely and cool and in the mid 20's c's that is.
I do love your easy chair and the throw on the footstool. :)

  12. I can't believe you found that throw in a thrift store. It's beautiful! During the 14 years I lived in Albuquerque, I would sometimes drive out to the Antique Co Op. There were a couple of great antique stores on Central too. One was called Sunset Antiques (?) I think. Heading west, it was on the right. Our Talented Friends was a fun place to go for little accessories. Where do you shop? I wasn't into thrifting yet back then. Where do you shop? Love your ironstone!

  13. Curling up with a mocha and that beautiful afghan with a good book! I have been searching for a white one with popcorn stitching or the rosettes--nada...just keep looking :) I'm going to buy me some cottage flowers at the local owned market for a pick me up too! Take care, Kris

  19. Hello Jacqueline - such a cozy spot to while away these winter days. It is the opposite here - we're experiencing an early spring - temps in the 70s and severe weather. I really would love a real winter...
    I hope you're having a blessed day,
    Kathy

  20. I love the way your house looks, Jacqueline. After Christmas but before Spring, I try to have a calmer, barer look around the house. (Or as 'bare' as my cluttered domain can be!) Like a soothing pause between seasons. When I want to hunker down in winter you'll find me in my 'reading' chair with a good book and a cup of flavored coffee, or at one end of the sofa with tea and my knitting. I love your scarf!! It must be so warm and soft.

  23. Your photos are SO lovely. I've always liked the look of empty frames as "art", in and of themselves and yours are so pretty. Here it has been snowing wet and heavy all day and I don't like getting out and driving in it unless I must, which has me feeling a little "hemmed in" also. I have a few little cheerful craft projects to work on to fight the "blahs".
Your place has so many pretty things and cozy whites! Thanks for sharing it.

  28. Jacqueline, it's cold and windy here tonight as well. We are nice and cozy by a warm fire. I had a bowl of split pea soup. A little cup of mocha will be a nice ending. ;-)

  30. I love how those empty frames look leaning on each other like that. Such an interesting country look. Love all the white you have too. I'm a big fan of that myself. The throw on your ottoman is gorgeous!

  31. Your chair with that wonderful thrift store throw, looks like the best seat in the house! Love the vignette with the frames. Funny how they were just sitting there propped up, and you were like "dang" that looks good! I did the same thing with a painting i just couldn't find the right spot for, i propped it up somewhere, and i love it right where i propped it!
