Vintage Cherry Linens

There's no way around this looking like a paid commercial. Oh well. They won.

They know that retro is the rage. Vintage is WHERE IT'S AT!

Way back when, their genious was in being the "UN-Cola". And now, it's in riding the retro wave that has been such a success for those other guys.

But today it's the inspiration for my vintage picnic!

July is when I feature my 50's print cherry tablecloth, and other cherry themed vintage linens. Red, for a red hot month. 

A vintage wicker picnic hamper and ice bucket stow it all away, and a spiffy vintage map tray rounds it all out.

I like keeping this picnic gear in the camper trailer. Besides getting away from town for a couple of days, we do a little time travel too!

Faded Roses ~ A Vintage Tablescape

I find a sweet romance in faded roses. They have a softness that goes with anything vintage. Maybe there is a touch of nostalgia that passes through any setting in which they are gathered.

I probably like old things for the same reason. That hint of mystery. The unknown hand that put the beauty into old worked linen. A worn surface. Signs of age.

A drooping flower can serve merely as a signal that fresh ones are due, or help us appreciate the fleeting things of life. Old objects do the same. 

My little appliqued table square is perfect for a picnic, and reminds me that I have that pleasure yet to look forward to this season. Draped over a wire basket it lends a casual mood to the table.

And I'm in the mood for something a little rustic.

A rustic table takes you away from the ordinary, to a world apart. It helps you appreciate a little bit more the romance in a faded rose. . . . 

My glassware is a vintage bistro set of four.

Creamware bowls are gathered in a vintage wire market basket. A creamware jug holds vintage cream handled knives.

The vintage Spode jug has a raised grape leaf pattern.

I've never seen a tiny enamelware pot quite like this one. Anyone know what it was used for? Melting butter??

Homespun towels from the 18th century have hand crocheted trim-- one of them in a pale pink thread. My tablecloth is a cotton canvas drop cloth from the hardware store. I'm liking the putty color which is a bit like unbleached linen. This cloth is going to be a workhorse!

My Own Private Beach

After the noise, and color, and celebration, let there be White.

A gathering of comforting white things makes a soothing vignette to replace the commotion of the past few days. So nice when the tide of visitors comes in. And good to get back to the natural rhythm of things after. 

Some of my very favorite things.... Clocks, books, linen and lace, dried weeds, and sea stars. My table has become my own private beach in which to smooth out the wrinkles of too much play, too much to eat, and not enough sleep. . . .  

And just in time for White Wednesday!
