Getting the goods is a numbers game. It's about how many markets you hit in the least amount of time. It helps to know where to go after a bit of experience, but there will never be one place to fill up your basket. It's not unusual for me to visit up to six or seven spots in an afternoon on a major foray. And you have to just spin through to cover that many. Over time you can get a knack for it. Still, I often come away with just a single item from any one source. But they all add up!
Antiques Roadshow was recently in town. A friend in the business told me how they came into her shop and merely sailed through looking for items of interest, spending only minutes. When you know exactly the kind of things you are looking for, it doesn't take long.
Here are a few fun finds from last weekend. While everyone was at the mall gearing up for the start of the school season, I was at the junk markets getting the goods!
I always have my eye peeled for ironstone pitchers, of course. This pretty one came with the bowl to match, both of which were in perfect condition.
Creamy bits of lace. . . .
Finding a pair of drugstore jars complete with lids in two different sizes gave me a silly little thrill!
A new ironstone hotel bowl to add to my first. I would love to have a whole pile of these!
Just ask me how wigged out I was to find a set of these chippy vintage metal file drawers!
This is my current favorite hue of brown transferware. . .
This bit of lace is being considered to embellish a lamp shade.
A small washstand/vanity toothbrush holder also makes a lovely vase. . . .
From five different sources.
This hefty round pitcher is a new shape to add to my pitcher collection.
Welcome to the family!
Happy hump day! Another week seems to be sailing swiftly by. The mornings are cool, and there's a shift in the air. We need to get in another picnic or two while the season holds. I know there are a few bundles of wild sunflowers out there waiting for me!
Happy Wednesday, my friends!
So nice that you took a minute to visit with me!

Wow, wish I had so many great places to scavenge for stuff! I collect ironstone as well, you got some nice pieces. When I saw the file cabinet I assumed you had painted it yourself. What a lucky find!

It is all very nice; I especially like the brown transferware !
ReplyDeleteMy Grandmother use to take off early mornings during the trash day in a large city when I was a child. And she had the most amazing and beautiful home. Now that lady collected some throw-away treasures!
ReplyDeleteI love your Blog...
Yours, Roxy
And there is a shift in the air, Fall will be here soon!
You always have the best finds. Love the transferware. My favorites are brown, black and red. I have a few old brown ones from Nancy's Daily Dish. I received old lace doilies from grandmother and thought of your right away. Sorry I have been MIA we finally are in the new house. Unpacking and decorating away. Yes, I am using those doilies.

ReplyDeleteI have a weakness for pretty ironstone pitchers!! I just love the white file cabinet too, quite the find!
ReplyDeleteI just love seeing what you find. They are all wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI found an ironstone pitcher this week. They are hard to find here anymore. So many antique places have gone out of business. Your pitcher is beautiful. Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home.
