Acquired Tastes

I suppose like a few things, majolica is an acquired taste. I didn't even really know what it was until a few years ago.

But coming across this robin's-egg blue pitcher changed all that.

Even with the repaired cracks and chips it riveted me, and I have cherished it ever since.

Old majolica is more textured than the same pottery produced today, and most often found with flaws. Rich colors, and elements of nature are a hallmark, like the twig handle, and the bark textured surface.

Both sides of the jug are different, and you can plainly see the age even in a photo.

The repairs are also old, and indicative of a time when items were repaired and kept in use.

I have let go some of my more recent vintage samples of the pottery, but my own ashes may have to be placed into this vessel!

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a peek!
Ciao! for now!

  3. Why, they're works of art absolutely! I told my eldest daughter that my ashes would need to be with my pets' ashes when I die. And she said: "Mother, no telling how many pets you'll have had by then!" I said I don't care; scatter us all on a flower garden.
