White Wednesday & Lost In The Fifties

Here are a few more highlights from our road trip to Dallas, TX and back. We saw a bazillion different vintage items along our path over the last week! One of the most impressive shops was called "Lost In The 50's" in the town of Clovis NM. One of the largest linen collections I have ever seen.

We visited another immense antiques mall, Grand Central Station Antiques, in Lubbock, TX. Here are just a few wonderful booths and items that captured my attention.

My favorite corner of the shop was The Nest Egg which had a heavy accent on French Style, and a wonderful mix of old and new. . . .

I wanted all of these. . .

Needless to say, I came back bursting with fresh inspiration!

In The Field~LaurieAnna's Vintage Home

Good news! We got to LaurieAnna's at Canton Texas!

There was a traffic jam in town on Saturday afternnoon. (Peak time for visitors to the flea market on "First Mondays.") But we found a good route with our GPS navigator to the shop we traveled many long miles to visit for the first time. 

Texas is huge and flat, with much barren land between our house and LaurieAnna's.

A photo op stop at this ancient picturesque church on a wayside hilltop seemed only necessary. (Even though the wind was so wild that day it almost knocked me over.)  

You know you are a long way from anywhere when you see a road sign like this one. . . . 

The wind turned into a serious sand storm. 

We could see the approach for desolate miles, looking more like smoke rising up from a brush fire and darkening the sun.

Tumbling tumble weeds by the score. (I coughed and cleared my throat all the next day.)

I wanted to show you pictures of our visit to the shop too, but none are allowed. Something was said about an insecurity about competitors. But seriously. There was no one else I was trekking to see! And who on earth could possibly compete? I mean, really. Have you been to LaurieAnna's??? 

All the photos here are from the website. They told me they were there, and apparently consider them adequate. I assure you they are not. 

So I have failed to reveal the current general splendor to you. But it did leave me free to gape. (As all the other pilgrims were doing.) And yes. . . Oh yes. . . . I laid some money down. (*insert big happy smile*)

Among other things I brought home a few of these little bunnies under the dome. . . .

And a couple ruffled pillow shams.

 (Can't stay away from the linens!)

Vintage Baskets

I like just a touch of seasonal and holiday decor. We don't have tons of storage for it, (no garage, basement, or attic, for instance) so I don't buy many decorations either.

But I really prefer to use my vintage collections to feature a holiday anyway. This vintage flower basket is a natural for spring.

I also love using illustrations from A Country Diary in some way throughout most of the year. The numerous nature drawings and the hand lettering have such appeal, and there's a beautiful chapter for every month. 

Old ribbon and lace makes a nice bow. But lately I am loving torn fabric strips and have made a bow with a chenille bedspread "cutter" that I have been saving. It was already worn to shreds when I found it. 

I'm sort of crazy about this old bent up wire egg basket that I found in the Colorado countryside last fall. I've been toting things everywhere in it lately. A tatted doily in the bottom is a pretty way to display eggs.

A little lace napkin liner makes a sweet embellishment. (Imagine just how many gathered eggs it could hold!)

A few pretty linens make a perfect nest.

I don't remember the last time I bought a special Easter basket for the occasion, but it was many seasons ago. We always have plenty for eager egg hunters!

I love dressing up a little basket every now and then!
