An elderly gentleman recently told me that he came to New Mexico in 1963 from rural New York. His mother gave him two years. Almost fifty years later he's still enjoying the winter sunshine.
We say we have four seasons here: Summer, Fall, Winter, and Wind. And the windy season is the most severe. But we almost always have sunshine.
Sometimes all you need is "A sunbeam in a winter's day" (John Dyer c. 1700-1758). But the light is just pouring in this morning at a blinding angle as the sun tries to right itself in the sky once again.
The energizing light almost makes you forget the morning cold as you take in the brilliance of everything it touches in the early show.
It becomes a forgotten moment as I move through the business of the day. But the energy lingers, and lends more life to the day than if I hadn't stood briefly to take it in.
At the end of his days Crow Foot compared light to life in his Last Words (1890).
"What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of the buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow which runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset."
Wishing you many light-filled hours!
Ciao! for now!

I made my best purchase of brown transferware in Albq. about 4 years ago - 13 pieces of 19th century for $36! It is beautiful, but that pitcher shown in your vignettes is to die for!! Enjoy your sunshine - it has snowed all day here in Colo., but I know tomorrow will be full of light. Sally
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, Jacqueline...you really have captured the light in a special way and your vignettes are lovely as always!

I looked at your photos of the sunshine and just felt so warm all over!! They are indescribably beautiful! As you know, I've always said Oregon has two seasons, the rainy one and August! Although August isn't particularly reliable in having sunshine either, anymore. It's been so very dark and gloomy for so very long! Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your sunshine! Actually this afternoon for a very brief moment, the sun did peek through. I tried to go for a walk in it, but the wind and cold were too much for me. I didn't get far! Then it went behind the clouds again. They're predicting snow in a few days. Enjoy your sunshine!

Beautiful photos of even more beautiful stuff. The sun adds that sparkle that we all need to appreciate once in a while.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week.

ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your bit of streaming sunshine with me! I needed it today, so dreary here, though more snow is on the way, always followed by freezing cold sunshiney days, bright and cheery!! You are high in elevation, you must get quite alot of snow?
Bella
