Forming Clouds

There are moments of energizing color in my world. But white is for healing the ache of an ordinary day.

Enough time away from it and I fall back into white like a downy bed at the end of a hard day's work.

White is comforting.

Peaceful, calming, restful, serene.

But it also lends space for the eye to travel and thought to form like a shifting cloud. It's a room of ideas. A blank page. A stage.

I hope your days are taking a wonderful shape this week!

Seeing Things

Clear as glass? Or a distortion?

Is this pretty lace? Or just one very long tangled string?

Intricate construction? Or full of holes?

A feast for the eyes? Or simply inedible?

A marvelous structure? Or just an empty shell?

Highly layered and textured? Or colorless?

Shapely? Or merely crooked?

Shielding the view? Or letting light in?

Delightfully sheer? Or only flimsy?

A treasure? Or something practically everybody has outgrown?

A tool for seeing more closely? Or a device for starting a dangerous fire?

Empty bottles? Or a loaded shelf?

Buried garbage? Or objects of desire?

Murky? Or irridescent?

Obscuring a view? Or reflecting one?

The answers are a lot easier than the New York Times crossword puzzle! Or are they?

Ciao! for now!

Storybook Time

Whenever I look at the little biscuit jar on my sideboard I'm really a million miles away in place and time. I climb right into storybook land where charming little objects like this are used every day.

I'm transported to "The Secret Valley" in the Foxwood Tales for tea.

And for a few moments I live in a tiny little house in the woods.

With a cozy little kitchen just like this.

Care to join me?

I hope you have a cozy storybook weekend, inside or out!

The Vintage Naturalist

I've always been attracted to the Victorian studies of scientists and scholars you see in movies. All the old bug collections, boxes of shells, books, botanical prints, and pots and jars of who knows what. The kinds of rooms with piles of ancient leather-bound books on the natural world laying open on an immense library table in a secluded room somewhere.

I've not invested much in the real thing. But I have a smattering of old bird and garden prints and books. And I'm an utter fool for naturalist cards and stationary, and use them for everything.

I really can't wait until all the flowers, birds, and bugs are back. . . .  But for today, this is my vintage inspiration for Spring.

I'm glad you fluttered by!
