A French Romance

Occasionally it's nice to embrace a romantic table with abandon and go for the frills. For me that's a table that tends toward a little more detail, a bit more pattern, and lots of movement. I'm always thinking French, but in this case, giving over the simple country style for more of Marie Antoinette.

The tapestry, cherubs, and fabric flowers give me the mood I'm after, and my domed centerpiece glittering in candlelight transports me away like a crystal ball.

What lies ahead in the new year? Who will have graced this table? 

The future always seems to play a little better than the present reality. But we can get off to a good start!

Rose napkin rings are Simply Shabby Chic. A great fill-in when I can't place fresh white roses on the table.

The foundation plates are vintage Wedgewood with Anthropologie salad plates in the palest pink on top.

The set of four are all different, and feature flowers, birds, and architecture reminiscent of transferware of the Aesthetic Movement.

My oversized cake dome was a lucky marriage with the antique plateau mirror. The matching cake stand was lost in a mishap years ago, and the glass dome has languished without a mate until now. The fabric flower napkin rings are gathered with a ribbon in the center like a wedding bouquet.

Pressed glassware, flatware, and fringed damask linen napkins are all vintage.

Italian linen tea cloth, and a tapestry from a local vintage shop.
