There are some things that I value so highly that no matter how many I already have, I won't be passing them up if I find them at a great price. These antique linen towels are one. Forget that they were a pair, and that they even have our own monogram!
Thick and wonderful, they will probably last another hundred years. Their plain and simple beauty only adds to the attraction for me.
Kitchen antiques in general are one of my weaknesses. And I love being surrounded by old collections.
This old brown yellow ware bowl is a recent find. It holds no more than two or three cups, but still manages to hold a spell over me.
Old baking tins are hard to pass up.
And old pieces like this tin sifter seem to have universal appeal. When they turn up they can be very inexpensive, and can be a nice add-on or embellishment to another gift. But only for the vintage "worthy"!
An old heavy milk jug with just the right color and crazing turned up recently too.
The recent stuff all blends in with the old, making for a happy new kitchen combination.
I'm lucky enough to have a few family artifacts like Grandma Audrey's old fall themed dotted swiss apron from the thirties. I've used it, and others, countless times over decades to tie babies into vintage high chairs lacking the modern straps attached for the same purpose. But an apron does double duty by catching spills!
An old apron is a thing of beauty to invite into a traditional family holiday of giving thanks.
Among numberless other things, I'm thankful for these small legacies of the past.
Tied to us as firmly as apron strings.
Making us feel as securely attached to our family history as babies in a chair.
Wishing you all the blessings of a memorable Thanksgiving, wherever our family members may be!
Ciao! for now!

Oh , a post after my heart .
ReplyDeleteI believe OLD is beautiful and not only because IT IS beautiful, but rather because it is infused with history and memories ...Kitchen collectibles are my recent passion ( for no particular reason ) and I enjoy everything you've shown today .Your family treasures are PRICELESS and I adore these linen towers and this old tin measuring cup .
Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving !
How lucky to have found the old towels with your initials already on them! How often does that happen? I love the things you showed. The patina, the love and history, all the meals each item helped cook. Sometimes kitchen things hold a beautiful, almost tangible karma.
ReplyDeleteFine linen. I have many antique linen towels and they are the best :-)
