Little French Country Cow Table

I can only go so long before I start to miss setting my table with some brown transferware. And ma petite vache, my little cow, is the center of my tablescape today. Maybe I was influenced by the field of cattle I walked through today in the spring-like weather.  Or perhaps it was simply that I had no flowers to easily center the table. But cows it is.

To accent spring I have added some vintage botanicals for place cards next to my airiest transferware plates. Fabric rose napkin rings decorate the glassware.

I'm not an expert, but I was told this pattern is Fostoria. Anybody know?

This lidded butter dish is one of my favorites.

As is this lidded vegetable tureen with more cows.

Whimsy is not my first impulse, but this little cow won me over.

Ironstone butter pats in sterling silver balance each other.

Inner detail.

Rim detail.

Everyday white china serves as a charger.

Vintage damask napkins and Wallace flatware.

PotteryBarn dipping bowls hold oversize tea lights, also from PB.

Ready for dessert.

Thanks for your visit!
Ciao! for now!

  4. Your glassware is Fostoria in the American pattern. I inherited about 100 pieces of the Fostoria American from my mother. It dates primarily from the late 30's to 40's. You've set a gorgeous table, as always. Sally

My daughter collects that pattern and has about 200 pieces. Fortunately for me, she likes the little pieces pretty well ;^) There are some $$$ in the big stuff!

  37. You may not know Fostoria, but you have a gifted eye for brown and cream transferware...just beautiful! Any number of makers make/made the quilted glassware, but there is definitely a way to identify the Fostoria. Fostoria is made in a three-part mold, so it will have three seams visible when you look down inside the goblet. If it doesn't have three mold seams, it is not Fostoria. A really good antiques dealer taught me that. Thanks for sharing your lovely design. Cherry Kay
