I was so lucky to come upon a little stash of pretty linens at a giveaway price this weekend! I don't mind at all having just a single pillowcase when it looks this pretty.
These lovely Madeira applique napkins were a bargain until I realized that they had sticky tape residue on them! I did my best with a soak, but without much success. I Googled a remedy, but it didn't really work for me. I will use them unironed and keep washing them a ton. It may help.
I always pick up plain all cotton pillowcases too when I can. Besides being a basic for the bed, they are perfect used as a cloth sack for storing quilts and other linen that you need to keep fresh, organized, and breathing freely.
A new pitcher joined the collection as well. I have a bunch already, but a pretty white pitcher makes a perfect all occasion gift. Especially with a fresh bouquet tucked in!
I don't get a lot of small embroidered pieces anymore, but this one was too charming to pass up! A pretty piece like this is a great way to get the youngest generation going on appreciating vintage linen.
But my favorite new find is this delicate little doily with a knitted lace edge. The french knots, and the bitty touch of yellow just stole my heart away! Worked on fine linen, and still in perfect condition.
The top folded piece is another pillowcase single. It also has a rarer knitted lace trim versus the usual crochet edge like the one underneath. Any all white pieces work wonderfully together. I wouldn't think twice about gifting a mis-matched pair of beautifully worked vintage pillowcases!
But I'm thrilled to find pairs like these too of course!
Just a touch of color on an all white bed is delicious!
This Battenburg pair is not old, but still pretty with its machine done details.
It all makes for some pretty sweet dreams!
I hope it's turning out to be a beautiful new week for you!
So nice that you came by for a visit!

Oh, they are all so pretty!! There is a product I use often called....'Goo Gone'....you can get it at the craft stores or grocery stores. Follow the directions and blot the sticky spot with a clean cloth with a bit of the liquid, then rinse, then launder. Also, I have removed candle wax from linens by putting paper towel under and one over the spots and used my iron on, no steam, the towels will absorb the wax. Don't know if it will work on your problem, but worth a try. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI'm once again swooning Jacqueline : )
ReplyDeleteI simply love this post~
The white pitcher (great size!), the Madeira, and
all of your newly found treasures are gorgeous;
but I believe the doily w/the knitted edge and bits
of yellow is my fave too.
How does linen bring such a calm quiet loveliness to it's
surroundings!?!
Thank you for sharing.

Oooh lucky you! A whole bundle of new pretties! The white on white with a pop of yellow is dreamy but that pink edging made me swoon too :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Day to You!
Hugs,
Bella
Oh my word, such finds, Jacqueline! WOW! They are each absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteFunny your header says "Sweet Dreams," because in about an hour I leave for a hospital overnight sleep study, haha, because of my insomnia and such - they're trying to get to the bottom of it and I soooooo don't want to go!
So - wish me sweet dreams for sure, haha. Hugs. Love your linens. I have been really good about not going ANYWHERE thrifting until I get my extra things sold or purged/given away.....I absolutely positively refuse to do it, and it has been killing me all these months, seriously, like a drug I love to thrift.
I know I have missed a ton of bargains, but I promised myself this and I hardly ever lie to myself, so there it is. I have been "shopping the house" and really like how it looks for autumn and can't wait to be able to share it with everyone. I have sooooo many things to share with you and just little time to do it lately. I'LL BE BACK! ♥
Those linens are absolutely beautiful! And pressed so perfectly too! Seeing freshly laundered and pressed stack of linens, mixed and matched just makes me feel so good. I am lucky enough to have several old pillow slips, doilies, table cloths and such from my mother, grandmother and special aunt. I love to use them, but many are so precious I keep them in a glass cabinet in our master, where I can see them when I pass by. I adore your pitcher also...it is darling...
ReplyDeleteYour new linens are just beautiful. I do have a weakness for beautiful embroidered pillow cases and use them all the time.
ReplyDeleteLove knitted lace - I always look for it, but rarely find it. You scored!! Sally
ReplyDeleteSo perfectly beautiful! Love the first photo with the pitcher and stacks of amazing linens!
ReplyDeleteI am just drooling over all of those beautiful linens. They all look in such good shape. Gorgeous finds.

You have some lovely pieces there but the doily with the french knots and knitted lace edging is my favourite, so delicate and pretty.
ReplyDeleteI used to have a lot of this stuff and sold a boxful last year for $20. I just had not used it in years and had no relative who wanted it (had been made by various old relatives) so wanted it to go to someone who would appreciate them and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteLoving all the new linens. The Battenberg is so crisp and the one with the knit edge might be my favorite, too. Whenever I see the embroidered edges I think of my grandmother patiently working on her cases. I only have a few that have survived but they are treasures.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea about using the pillowcases for the quilts, etc. I always store each sheet set in its matching pillowcase but hadn't thought about it for other things.
Jacqueline you surely do have an eye for great finds. But most remarkable is the care you give these lovelies...you make them look so beautiful. I would love to spend the night in one of your beds!
ReplyDeleteSimply put - this post is a thing of beauty! I could look at your lovely photos all day, you have such an incredible talent for capturing the simplest of details that is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! Just simply gorgeous!!!

I HAVE USED WD-40, ACETONE (NAIL POLISH REMOVER), AND SKIN-SO-SOFT BATHOIL SUCCESSFULLY TO REMOVER STICKER GOO. WITH BOTH THE WD 40 AND THE S-S-S I LAUNDER THEN USING DAWN DISH SOAP AS A PRETREAT TO GET THE OILY RESIDUE OUT OF THE ITEM ----- AIR DRY SO YOU CAN BE SURE ALL THE OIL IS GONE BEFORE YOU HEAT SET THAT STAIN.
ReplyDeleteTHESE ARE BEAUTIFUL
Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteyour linens are gorgeous, you're so lucky to have found them!

Try Citra-solve. Ordered thru Amazon - works better than Goo-Gone and is environmentally friendly. Good luck - your linens are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour gorgeous linens never cease to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteSomeone may have already said this, but Denatured Alcohol should take your sticky residue away. Just let it soak for a few minutes and then wash as usual!
ReplyDeleteI love all of your beautiful linens and the pretty white pitcher!
Blessings,
J
I don't know if I've ever seen a knitted edge on linen, or just don't realize it. It's so delicate. So love using vintage cases...you really hit the jack-pot, Jacqueline! LOTS of pretty pieces.

That knitted edge is stunning. I just love the all white pieces. It makes the prettiest photos! Thanks for sharing this at Home Sweet Home!
ReplyDeleteYou find the most gorgeous linens Jacqueline. I'm sure you must have the most enviable linen closet. Thank you for sharing your lovely new finds at Shabbilicious Friday. I'll be featuring them at tomorrow's party.
ReplyDeleteHugs ~ Kerryanne
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser will remove the sticky residue easily. No worry about staining from other products.
ReplyDeleteVintage linens have sky rocketed in price in my area and they are very hard to find. Your pieces are gorgeous! I envy you!
