Another Chapter From My Transferware Obsession

I can't even remember when my obsession with brown transferware started. But it was sometime in the last ten years. I can't imagine what the cupboards would look like if I had gotten started earlier. Seriously.

But I am especially drawn to these loosely rendered florals, and so I will probably narrow my focus. When I am tempted to conclude that brown transferware is only a cozy cold weather thing, I find a maker's mark with a pattern called "Spring." So there you go!

I'm in love with the maker's marks too.

It's an overcast afternoon, so I am taking these shots from my living room armchair. You already know about the blogger's life so this will not especially surprise you. But I kind of keep it from the neighbors. . . .

The regulars around here have learned to nudge things over on the table or a chair when they need to. Sometimes I even forget that I have left things in the yard! (It's probably an age thing.)

All of these lovelies came to me in just the last week or so.

This one is an orphan salad sized plate with sweet details.

And a sweet price. (I knew you would be squinting to see that!)

This set of four came at a good price from my friend Karla of Red House Antiques, a fellow collector. Only one had this swallow design which clinched the deal for me. It reminds me of an illustration you might find in an old fairytale book. Enchanting.

I love the stories that all old transferware has to tell.

The other three in the set with the same pattern name "Sylvan" have this design.

I hope it's a great weekend for you!
A good time to find something wonderful.
So glad that you stopped by!

  9. Like you, I am a transferware fan, no matter how compressed the pattern. But there is something about the airy lightness of these patterns you've share that makes my heart swoon. A gentle, easy loveliness that lets you see the magic of the pattern. Gorgeous.

Have a fabulous weekend (and I love your new cards!)

  10. I love the sketchy lines on your transferware, as if someone had handpainted them one lazy summer's afternoon. But it's the mix of pieces that really catch my eye. They are all so incredibly beautiful together!
Happy weekend to you and yours, Jacqueline!

  22. Many many years ago blue was my choice of transfer-ware, and then some cranberries in The mix... But then about the late 90's it hit me with joy colour change that why of why did I not pick up those brown ones, funny from the 50's on brown was never favored for table settings nor the blacks, yet now! I believe they are the first to go with dealers collections in my travels. It's all that natural earthware that draws them in to buy up. Such a rare find around here in Southern Calif to be the one that has the chance to buy any shop pieces, mthe minute they are placed on a store shelf of even a thrift shop you better be the first one in line because they are gone. I want to add some blacks a when I see them I make a wise choice to add them into my dish cupboards.

Now I am in the pottery studio enjoying making New pottery plates, uneven, out of shape thick chubby plates to be used everyday and for my daughters dream wedding of these hand thrown French in flavor for a rustic wedding someday.
I can see you setting tables and tables of your dinnerware xollection creating a beautiful event to celebrate.

Beautiful photo with the shadowed light casted on the chair filled with plates.

    See you soon.
    Beautiful Sunday to you.

    Xx
