Suddenly Christmas Day seems so close! On Friday, two weeks away seemed to yawn ahead. I sometimes wish there was more celebration between Christmas and the New Year like there was in the Old Days. Visiting would only begin on Christmas Eve and last all week.
I've begun playing carols on Pandora in the background. Some beautiful new versions of old favorites. Really gives me a lift! Our sixty degree weather changed almost overnight for a high of 45. The overcast day made these photos very fuzzy and full of what I'm going to call "atmosphere."
Our big holiday will happen early, with family coming in this weekend. So a few more tweaks with the decorating and then down to serious work getting the house ready!
We always need extra seating, and I thought that this antique French chair with needlepoint would look nice in this corner against the white. I am always talking myself out of re-upholstery because I admire the needlework. But I found a perfect Battenburg lace to lighten up the appearance for now.
I pulled out the Dicken's village for the first time in years. None of the delightful extras have been added yet. Trees, fencing, lamp posts, carolers, etc. The children enjoy adding those touches when they visit.
We had our first viewing of It's A Wonderful Life on the tube last night, so with all the music, decorating, and shifting around, the season feels officially underway. Like the fuzzy lighting, full of plenty of atmosphere. . . .
Busy days ahead!
I hope you find time for some warm and fuzzy too!
Wishing you a lovely and joyful new week!
Jacqueline

ReplyDeleteI agree with you about taking more time to enjoy the holidays. This year we will be exchanging presents with our daughter on December 28 because she leaves for Kauai on Wednesday night. It gives me an excuse to bake again after Christmas.
Your home is so warm and cozy. The word verification is showing up all over bloggy world.
ReplyDeleteHello dearest Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all my favorite wreaths are of French box woods. I have been creating some of my own as well as other greenery. NOW! Your white PENCIL TREE is so beautiful and considered one for myself. Yet doing the greens, their is a flocked white one that I may go get due to they are on clearance at a sweet shop here in town.
It looks so magical in all white nested in the corner next to a favorite cabinet.
Love all your Joyeux touches for your Christmas home, it's dressed in all is calm, and amazingly lit.
Xx

ReplyDeleteHugs :-)
So very lovely Jacqueline! The needlepoint chair is the perfect extra seating for the holidays! I love how you let the children complete the Christmas village :) Hoping you have a lovely week - don't work too hard! xo Karen
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I miss that too. Las Posadas is a lovely tradition too, but the only time I did something similar was when I was a kid in northeastern Arizona. Everything is stunningly, beautiful. xoxo
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmad, Jacqueline! Thank you for another year of beautiful, hearfelt posts and pictures. Enjoy your visitors and the season. Patty/NS
ReplyDeleteWe watched "It's a Wonderful Life" that same evening. It wouldn't be Christmas without it. :)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks beautiful, and I'm sure the kids will love adding to the little village. Enjoy!!!
Hugs,
Lin

I love boxwood wreaths, they are so soft and bring a freshness to all the holiday decor. I'm happy to hear you are enjoying the season, putting on music and spending family time! It's just the best!! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI love your lights. I have never thought to use the snowdrop lights inside the house. We may have to pull a strand I. To drape over a cabinet. I love how you decorate in every season! You are a favorite!!!!
ReplyDeletePS I read on another blog that if you choose the embedded comments that the word verification does not appear.
ReplyDeleteJacqueline, I love your white sparkly lights! And the crochet piece on your chair is beautiful! I fear my grandsons would have that in shreds pretty quickly! I put an old chenille bedspread on my sofa and they love to roll around on it and of course wrestle so it's all messed up. Crochet would never last!
ReplyDeleteMy nephew left Reed College and returned to Alb for break. He said it was raining worse there than here! I said he hadn't seen the flooding at my place---and that the sun will be back tomorrow, there, unlike here where showers and rain are predicted, well, forever! Lovely fuzzy photos with little sun! Have fun with your family!
Kay
Love your setting for tea time! Such a pretty chair with your special linens! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas!

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas!!!

Popping back Jacqueline to say "thanks for linking up at Shabbilicious Friday". I'm delighted to be featuring this post at tomorrow's party. xx
ReplyDeleteFunny you mention "atmosphere" in your pics due to downcast days. We have a LOT of cloudy dark dank days here in Ohio - it is the bright sunny cloudless days that are rare and wonderful here.
ReplyDeleteYesterday and today are like that. I know I should get my camera out and snap away, but, frankly, I jusdonwanna!
I LOVE that French side chair - wow, the woodwork too, whew, gorgeous!
Hope you had a wonderful holiday with your loved ones near.
