Everything in this house has been served up with books because they are the bread of life. Since Cicero we have heard that "A room without books is like a body without a soul." And you won't have to flip through many of my blog pages to find them either. Since the Downton Abbey book post, I was asked to show the dust jacket too:
Good for marketing perhaps, but it's just like the DVDs for the series. It proves the adage that you can't tell a book by it's cover. Here are a few of my favorite ways with vintage, antique, and nature book collections. . . .
I should have shown the cover of my Kindle too. I am trying to make the transition to the twenty-first century! It's a grand idea to have electronic books, of course, but they should probably call them something else. My definition of a book is entirely different.
I hope your busy week is turning a happy page or two!

Such beautiful and evocative pictures, Jacqueline! I especially love the books with thick vellum pages, marbelized edges, and pretty endpapers. Books were a true art form in those days. I love owning books, and prefer a *real* book to hold when I read.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I love the style of these photographs and gorgeous objects on them . Have a great day Jacqueline !
ReplyDeleteYou always surprise me with your beautiful, inspiring and original posts. Did you check out my last post with the dinner party with a crown theme? I think you might like it.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline...my family and I are all enthusiastic readers, so we really appreciate the beauty of books. Thankyou so much for your serene, inspiring images :)

I must be surrounded by books. My bedside table, at both houses, is stacked with them and so is the floor. I am usually reading three at different times during the week. You have a marvelous vintage collection.
ReplyDeleteLove all your old books and displays, especially the outdoor one with the beautiful lace tablecloth! I love my books, too! Every room has at least one bookcase, and they are overflowing onto the floor! For now I am sticking to old fashioned books instead of the new technology. I just enjoy the feel of the pages. I don't have old beautiful ones such as yours, except my grandmother's huge bible. It's a wonder! But I love my books just the same. Thanks for a beautiful post! oh--we had a rare sunny day today and the birds are singing the sweetest, most lovely songs as I write this in my office surrounded by books!
ReplyDeleteI love books too and one will find them in every room of our home. Although I seldom ever post about books, they are a love of mine. Hubby has gotten right into the electronic kind but I still prefer the old fashioned kind with two covers. Wonderful post, Jacqueline! Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sandi
Your blog posts are just the best -the subjects, the words, the pictures!!!

Beautifully shown as always. You just can not beat a great book.
ReplyDeleteOh your nature books are delightful! You've inspired me to pull out my books hidden in all the nooks and crannies.

I love the brown birdies on the stoneware. So unique.
ReplyDeleteYour nature books are all delightful, and your charming way to pulling photographs together is a real art! Beautiful and breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing at Potpourri Friday. I always appreciate you and your lovely posts!
You know, when I started reading your post,I was thinking of how much I love real books, their smell, touching them and reading from them, and can't ever see myself with a kindle, and thinking how lovely your displays are using books. Then I read your last paragraph about wanting a kindle. hmmm, not me.

What IS it about old books that is so appealing? If it wasn't 3:30am I'd get dressed right now and go to the village used-book store for a browse.
ReplyDeleteThere's something so unique about a well-loved, time-worn book, I have a few that I read every few years, they bring me much comfort! And you can't beat an old, faded, ancient book for decorating character....lovely post!
ReplyDeleteOh I want that book. I think I will ask for it for Mother's Day. I treasure the books I have that were my grandfather's. He collected old books. Some are in bad shape though.
ReplyDeleteJacqueline: I always love how you set your photos up. What an eye you have. I agree that books are a necessity of life and have many that one day I will pull out and try to get some pictures of, but if you find that your chamber pot with the birds on it comes up missing one day, you won't have far to look!! Thanks for your sharing..Judy
ReplyDeleteJacqueline,
ReplyDeleteYou make this "past" librarian's heart sing with this tribute to books...the printed word!!! The addition of lace, roses and tea cups makes this elegantly exquisite! Ah~h~h...thank you, dear friend!
Fondly,
Pat
We are bookaholics!! Love your pictures. SO beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI just loved these photos, and the different ways to display books.
ReplyDeleteI think they make a house feel very homey, to have books around. One time at a thrift store, I found an old book of Wuthering Heights...really old!!!
I couldn't believe someone would take it to a thrift store, so I nabbed that up pretty fast.
I love the disply of the books on the mantel, with a runner over them. What a lovely idea.
Beautiful post; I share your love of books! ♥♥
