Do stores still have January white sales? And how did that get started anyway? Even the linens aren't white anymore.
But I love the idea of starting out the year with snowy white.
The year should begin all creamy and smooth like fluffy sheets and white china, the days waiting to be filled with nourishing goodness like so many bowls and jugs.
White always feels like the promise of things to come. An unmarred beginning, like untrodden snow.
White brings a pleasing texture to life while eliminating the busyness and noise of color. Can the day or year at least begin with a hush? Even the birds wait until spring to start the day in song!
To everything there is a season. And maybe January is supposed to be the season of white. . . .
Wishing you a fresh and bright storybook beginning to the year.
Jacqueline

ReplyDeleteI have been collecting white pieces a lot lately. They are so pretty, fresh and clean looking.
I asked my mom about the January white sales...she was in retail for years. She said they were for a new beginning. Start new. Start clean and fresh. Makes good sense to me! Gives me another reason to go shopping! :-)
I've enjoyed your "white" post. It's snowy freshness is clean and pure.

Hi Jacqueline, I'm late to the party but want to say how lovely your whites are! I also have a bouquet of white roses and as they've opened, they just brighten things up---very good since we've been socked in fog and gray for so long. I love the silver with the white and have lots of silver around, too. About the birds waiting til spring to sing in the mornings--I have noticed lots of birds lately, in the mornings!! What's up with that?! Also several flocks of geese flying north the last couple of days-in January?? Anyway, the birds and geese are lovely and help January not be quite so nasty (there's lots of mud and gray, you know, the usual). So bring on the lovely, bright whites!
