Morning Glory

None of the pieces here are my own work, but I have a deep love and respect for all kinds of hand work because I have done most of it, and I know what's involved.

But I find embroidery the most cheerful. Probably because it was the first thing I learned to do.

My mother taught me one summer when I was old enough, probably about age nine.

She enjoyed it and was very good at it. Almost everyone of her generation, of all kinds of sewing, could at least embroider a little.

These applique Morning Glories are one step more advanced. They add an interesting texture and complexity, and I'm always extra pleased when I come across appliqued work.

Didn't almost everybody try their hand at dish towels? This little huck hand towel incorporates the lazy daisy stitch and french knots. Its little crochet edge dresses it up.

I like this little summer memory of my first taste of accomplishment. As pretty as these small works of art are, I know that a part of my delight comes from remembering my early experience right alongside.

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of the world! Ciao! for now!

  2. How pretty and delicate! I love your embroidery. This is something that my mom tried to teach me when I was little, but I never learned it. I learned to knit, crochet, and cross-stitch from her, but not embroidering ;-(
Thank you for joining my Handmade Monday. I'm very happy you did ;-)

  4. Hi Jacqueline, I think that's wonderful that your mom taught you at an early age. Not to many people can do that kind of thing when it comes to embroidery. I have to hand it to you for doing such a great job.... it looks lovely!

    Enjoy your Day*

  5. Oh, how delicate and beautiful. I love your needlework. I have never learned to do embroidery, though I've tried my hand at it here and there. (It all looked a bit frightening when I was done with it.)

Your work is very pretty. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

  12. Hi Jaqueline...
Gorgeous vignettes! I love embroidery too, I also learned as a girl, and have a fondness for it:-) I did start to do some tea towels last winter, and left them unfinished realizing my middle aged eyesight frustrated me!
I see pretty pink roses? Maybe you have given it to growing the fussy girls... a special occasion... or just a treat:-) Very Lovely choice:-)
