Rain Or Shine

Until recently it's been a dry hot summer. A few light rains over the past two weeks, and then finally yesterday, some real gully washers. An exciting turn of events for we desert folks! 

The porch plants are holding their own over our busy times this summer, thanks in part to good house-sitting help.

But even when moisture is sparse, and there's not a lot of bloom, I appreciate the structural qualities of a few vintage garden artifacts around.

We never hang a plant in this one, partially because hanging plants dry out extra quickly in our climate, and partially because I like seeing this wire planter as is!

This extra hot corner get plants in spring and fall, but the boxwood holds it's own amid the wire sculptures for now.

Swedish Ivy loves it's spot.

Thank heavens for all of our vintage watering cans! Angel vine is still doing okay! (Fingers crossed.)

I also wanted to mention another new magazine that I brought home amidst the rainy shopping afternoon. Not cheap at ten bucks, and mostly primitive country style which is darker than I like to live with, but I gave it the flip test, (do you do that?) and it had enough of a lighter style within it's pages to pass. Here are a few yummy samples. . . .

A lot of these rooms are styled by Fifi and Lulu. Scrumptious!

Favorite Things

 I found this old crate at the flea market a while back. Love it's aged and weathered look. I would love to have something old and French, but the logo suggests french to me anyway with it's faded black curves. Crates are so useful for storing and propping things, but I'm sure you've noticed that they show up everywhere in design. I went to Pottery Barn yesterday and saw that they have an old vintage looking version of a wine crate (at a big price) that you can buy if you can't find your own. Mine was only ten dollars.

I bought a bunch of my favorite white roses and thought they would look terrific inside. But I was also looking for a way to show the crate off and enjoy the look.

I have one of my fav cross stitched tablecloths on too. I like its rose motif in a neutral color on white linen.

My goodness this room got a workout while all my little girls were here! For now we'll just enjoy it with some different favorite pretty little things. . . .

We've hit a blissfully cool patch of weather the last few days, with cloudy skies and a few welcome scattered showers. It's quiet again about the house, and there are melancholy forties tunes playing on the radio. So many things to put right again after company leaves, but I'm enjoying doing it all at my leisure.

Hello to all of you good and faithful friends and followers! It's been good of you to keep popping in with a cheery word or two while I've been so busy the last few weeks. We have been consuming summer with a great and ravenous gusto here, just as if it were the luscious banquet that it actually is!

 This is our last day of Granny Camp.While I haven't been online to visit much, I have been doing an old fashioned "booting up" with a couple of magazines, and I just had to share this one with you. I found it at the grocery, or maybe Target. Do whatever you have to in order to get a copy!!! You fellow linen lovers will go out of your mind with ecstasy. 

Monogrammed vintage silver and china too. . . .

Here are a few of my own recent silver finds. The fork and knife set are ivory. I found them together with the celluloid cake knife for twenty dollars at a fleamarket. The large spoon was not a particularly big bargain at ten dollars, but I got it at a little roadside shop that I stopped into along the highway somewhere when the owner came running out of a home to open up. I felt I needed to make it a little worth her trouble. So many of these places are disappearing these days, and then where oh where will we be able to find these things?

The dust and clutter has gotten piled pretty high around here of late. I'm taking a hard look around to find my own little beauties here and there to share with you until I can polish things up again!
