We have a lot of birthdays at the end of summer, and it seems that we have a long series of small celebrations. But any excuse is fine for a gathering on the lawn this time of year.
Maybe it's because we have so many Leo's around the table, but I always like a touch of drama in a humble setting. One way to achieve it is to bring the fine furniture outside to join the party like the French and English do.
But anything unexpected is going to bring a little theater into a celebration and spark conversation. A cluster of antique books, for instance, or a set of gorgeous botanical cards. My son even offered to set up the market tent again. He said it was no trouble, and it set such a festive tone for our last garden party. But we're keeping it simpler than that.
I always think I need to pull out the script napkins at least once in August. I wonder why?
A bit of vintage lace and crystal is always invited.
Perhaps someone might read aloud a few lines from Ivanhoe: "The daylight had dawned upon the glades of the oak forest. The green boughs glittered with all their pearls of dew. The hind led her fawn from the covert of high fern to the more open walks of the greenwood; and no huntsman was there to watch or intercept the stately hart, as he paced at the head of the antler'd herd." . . . .Whenever else would you hear such language?
Are you getting in your last licks of summer too?
I just can't seem to get enough.
Have a terrific week!
I hope there's a small celebration in it somewhere for you.
Jacqueline

ReplyDeleteJacqueline,
ReplyDelete"Every occasion of life is reason to celebrate", is my mission statement for Studio One. Seems that you've taken this to heart...indeed. The chair is exquisite, dear friend. Poetic Ivanhoe and sparkling crystal atop beautiful lace and linen makes this a romantic scene in my book!!! I am refreshed after seeing green grass, plants and bushes. Drought conditions have taken their toll here on the Prairie; today I purchased a houseplant to have something green for viewing! Thank you for this lovely post!
Fondly,
Pat

Jacqueline: So pretty. What a nice celebration in the garden for any reason. The script napkins fit August perfectly and I love the centerpiece on your table. I always think of clipped boxwood hedges and fancy white ironwork when I see the green and white color scheme. Formal yet very inviting.
