One of my favorite decorations each year is this white tissue paper wreath. It's easy to make, but takes a while to finish. My granddaughter and I made this one together. In fact, gathering the materials and encouraging family and friends to add a few twists during the season makes a great gift or keepsake.
This year I rediscovered a second unfinished wreath that young Emilea had started when she last lived nearby. She is a grown girl in high school now and lives much too far away in Washington state!
I am finishing it up, and thought I would share the method. I really did learn how to make this in third or fourth grade! Ha ha!
You will need a wire hanger shaped into a circle and a bunch of rectangles cut from tissue paper about 5x1-1/2 inches or so. (For a standard sized hanger make the papers a bit larger, say 6x2.)
Place a pair of papers together with the wire between them, and give a couple of twists at their center.
Slide the twists firmly against each other at the wire hook and continue until the wire is full. Add any embellishments that you wish.
Marilyn from Delights of the Heart recently shared my other paper wreath tutorial at her church retreat, and I was just delighted to see this photo that she shared on her blog!
I'm also sharing this ghostly photo of our Llorona (Yoyo), who maybe thinks she is the ghost of Christmas present as she makes a nest for herself among the twinkle lights. (In fact she is named from a ghost in a regional legend.)
She was just bedazzled when we first brought the lights out!
I hope you are enjoying the season!
I seem to enjoy these early days best.
Welcome to December!

Hi J,
ReplyDeleteOk I already loved your wreaths, now with paper roses... I am smitten! Love your sweet sparkly kitty!!! My Berry slept in piles of tissue paper as I unpacked ornaments last night, they like all the fun too :-) Those paper white are looking good, do they have buds yet?

I love color at christmas, but seeing your white christmas you have changed my mine.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty wreath - and so simple to make. I love the little roses. Glad your little cat is enjoying the season, too. She poses so pretty, you should tell her to go into modeling. :) Every time I visit, it is such a treat. Better than chocolate. Hugs xo Karen
ReplyDeleteLittle Yoyo wanted some of the action, LOL! This wreath is so pretty and really like the way you embellished it with the soft roses.
