This post should really be entitled Albuquerque Snow because our weather pattern is different from Santa Fe, which gets more snow in winter, and from farther south, which gets much less. We have mountains nearby where the snow lingers much longer, (Great skiing in NM!) but in general this is a good snow for us.
This post is for Bella (Bella's Rose Cottage) who has been asking about our snow lately. Many folks are surprised that we have snow at all, but two or three small storms in winter are the norm at our elevation. These are just a few shots from my front window. So festive!
Desert Willow.
Spanish Broom.
Our neighbor's pueblo style home. (Our walls.)
The spiny plant is a Red Yucca, described as tough as nails. The graceful stalks bloom with coral colored succulent flowers in spring.
This is a more typical snowfall from last week. Gone the instant the sun shines again.
The sun will come out later this afternoon. But in the meantime we are holed up playing Christmas carols. Snow certainly gets you in the mood! So cozy!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Jacqueline
Wow, absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love that Pueblo home...what a view you have! The snow and trees and brush are all beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove your snowfall. It is beautiful. I loved your kitty pics, too in the last post. I wish you would post more of kitty.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sending the snow up to Colorado - it's beautiful here, too; but very, very cold! Sally
ReplyDeleteso pretty, enjoy the lovely winter weather, we're having our first bout today!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing this from where you live. In my neighborhood, we have a good three inches of snow already! People are often surprised when I tell them it snows in NM but I'm really glad it does.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty snow and beautiful photos. Just what we all need to put us in the holiday spirit. Enjoy ~ we have some bitter cold temps coming our way next week and probably snow too. Will miss the 60-degrees we enjoyed today.
ReplyDeleteCindy
We've got a dusting of snow today and it is cold!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that you would get snow in NM. Do you ever have so much that you cannot drive your car and are housebound?
It looks very pretty Jacqueline. Up here we don't think of snow in your area at all. But, I guess you do get some. I'm surprised. A good day to stay in as you said. Take care. Pamela
ReplyDeleteWe lived in Albuquerque for 4 years when my husband was in the Air Force and stationed at Kirkland AFB in the 1960's. It rarely snowed in the valley as I remember but we spent many a day up in the Sandia's, we cut a few Christmas trees too. We lived in an adobe house near the base---loved living there. Enjoy your time in the flakes.

WOW!!
ReplyDeleteI had absolutely no idea it snowed there at ALL. Amazing.
We're supposed to get a very heavy snowfall and nasty storm tomorrow until Sat morning......weather advisory warnings going on a lot today - yikes. Must be leftover from that storm you have there.
It's so pretty and so festive for the Christmas season.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! And it is your favorite color...white,
ReplyDeleteWe have snow coming tonight as well. Sounds fun, singing carols.
Oh enjoy all of that lovely white! We are getting it right now too. Should be quite a bit for December. Time to get the camera out!
ReplyDeleteSherry
Very pretty! I, also, didn't think you would have snow! Very Christmas-y!!
ReplyDeleteHi J!
ReplyDeleteThanks You, I am all smiles!! I LOVE LOVE the snow, it is beautiful, exotic, the willow tree is pure magic!! I think a lot of people would find morning snow which melts off, the best of both worlds, all the beauty and none of the slippery roads... our snow is off the forecast :-(
Big Hugs and Smiles!
B
Oh, I love the beautiful snow. I love when it snows, even though we don't get much.

Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteI L O V E SNOW!!!
. . .and TODAY, it SNOWed here on the Prairie!!!
I ask for SNOW every year on my Birthday!!! And today, I got my wish!!! No Christmas Carols here, but I did The Happy Dance!!!
Thanks for sharing your NM SNOW!!!

The snow looks so odd around the southwestern buildings! I didn't realise that you get snow at all.
ReplyDeleteJ, you have gotten snow even before some of us Midwestern and Northern states! How beautiful! I think I have mentioned that my best friend now lives in Albuquerque. She is an Esthetician and owns Dermalogica there. Perhaps you know her or have heard of her...Leslie Ortiz? I would so love to visit her, we keep in touch by email. When you report on the weather, I know that's what she is surrounded by as well and it makes me feel closer. :)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
We too, get à bit of snowberry on our Southern California desert, not much just enough a couple of times throughout the cold of winter to tease us. Never or rarely at Christmas maybe some this year though...
ReplyDeleteYour neighbors hacienda looks much like some of the ones around me? Do you live in one as well? Or just a cottage type home?
You must be feeling the holiday spirit with its whiteness around you?
See you soon
Xx

So pretty, Jacqueline...I always think snow is the best decoration...
