February is the shortest month, but is also a time for longing. Longing for love, for spring, for inspiration.
It's all hearts and flowers online awaiting another season, but just outside the window my views are still brown.
Nature is all in cold suspension, its invisible workings gone underground.
For now my own imagination feels unseeded.
Like the ticking of a clock in an empty room,
there is only the rythm of the winter days. . . .
and the gatherings from a faded past for inspiration. . . .
As I am prone to do, I have cocooned myself in brown. Pondering vignettes of an earthy color.
Stirred up only by ticking stripes and percussive graphics.
With even the birds and bees in a quiet landscape.
I love that my china echoes the winter offerings!
Far from feeling bleak, I just can't stop collecting twigs from a brambling ramble.
And am cheered by something so small it will fit into a teacup. . . .

ReplyDeleteyour brown transfer ware is beautiful! Brown is one of my favorite colors, I use it a lot with my red and green. I also have a collection of vintage photos, mostly of children, they are my favorites!

ReplyDeleteWe went on a short road trip today to Pueblo to shop -- I commented on the way that everything was so brown and dirty on the prairie this time of the year. But, I was cheered up when we got home, and I could be surrounded by all my brown transferware. Yours is cheerful, too. Guess it is just a matter of perspective. Of course, Colorado is covered in Bronco orange and blue today, too!!!! Sally

Jacqueline, I see brown almost year around, yes, the trees and grasses, and blooms come of colour but, being on the Southern California desert for us it is common to see vastness of wild sages and rolling hills and flat lands of Browns of Goldens.
ReplyDeleteI embrace this time of year, it's a bit mor quiet for us, and it seems the desert slows down a bit, winter is my favorite time of year, but I must say I do find joy in the birthing of each new season. Your Browns are welcoming spring and natures new and old growth.
I love the brown transfer ware and the ticking combination here, there's an old prairie dusted with fields of new growth felling here, or even a felling of an English cottage tea time. I love how versatile ticking and transfer-ware feels. And it feels very rustically homey here.
I want to mention the yellow Jacket ribbon, or bee ribbon is it old? It really looks great in the mix of your natures settings, and feels like your setting is a vignette out of a book of natures botanicals.
I loved seeing you switch it up a bit with adding ticking into your linen and pottery mix.
I am a late bloomer over here but so adding ticking these days into my home. Next it will be more muted prints, and faded velvets.

I love how you create your vignettes from your stash of pretties and can make brown and white look so beautiful! The old photos are so lovely especially the one of the little boy. We are a winter wonderland here now and it is snowing as I type. I just got in from clearing the decks off a bit so we can at least get out if necessary. Have a great week.

ReplyDeleteJust wondering why you bloggers have to put up numerous pictures of one item. eg. the heart shaped cookie......One picture of each design would suffice. Repetition is so boring for the reader.

Jacqueline, I love how you can dry flowers and they look great in your photos. I dried ferns this fall and I looked at them the other day and thought they look dead. Maybe if I get them in front of the camera and work with them they will come alive..... If not, that's going to be really embarrassing. Thanks for sharing at Home Sweet Home!
