If you're energized and inspired by bright color it can be dull to pull your chair up to an all white table setting. Maybe you have an impulse to throw red napkins on a scene like this. But if white is your element, it's all about textures and reflected light, and a beautiful spaciousness. I am my own guest host today with one of my favorite tablescapes that originally appeared here on the first week of September last year called "Bittersweet." I still feel the same way about the end of Summer.
Mornings are cool, but the afternoons are still surprisingly hot in our Septembers.
But evening is the mellow twin to the chilly dawn.
Travel south and you may embrace the warmth for another season or two.
But there's no denying the change in the air for the high desert.
It's a bittersweet time for heat and summer lovers.
So it's time to celebrate like friends meeting on a whirlwind holiday that is coming to a close.
White seems right for evening, and the table is laid with a simple vintage linen cloth.
A luxurious natural linen crocheted tea cloth is laid ceremoniously on top.
A farewell party calls for something special, and this wide silk border is it!
Wishing for eternal days on the beach, the centerpiece is filled to the brim with seashells.
Vintage flatware brings a little more dignity and character to the everyday dishes and cotton napkins.
Sea stars welcome you with open arms as if to offer a last embrace.
Glasses are William Sonoma. Cavalini and Co. produce the Histoire Naturelle fish cards.
As so many of you are glad to be saying goodbye to the extreme temperatures you had this year, I can only say Adieu! and farewell to another wonderful summer. If I could, I would be one of you snowbirds that travel south for the winter. But it's going to be a fabulous fall!
Ciao! for now!
Jacqueline
