A lot of us are just one generation removed from farm life at most. Maybe that's why there is such a romantic association with farmhouse living.
It's not for everyone. But fortunately you don't have to actually live on a farm to appreciate its virtues.
Like this planter made of old metal and garden wire.
And a rusty old metal stool.
The wash on the line.
I can hardly hang a thing without remembering my favorite farmhouse movie character. . . .
Edna Spaulding of Places in the Heart.
Old blue canning jars.
The life barely distinguishes between the inside and out. It's back and forth all day long.
There are the fineries, like lace curtains at the window.
Nothing like a farm fresh egg!
Farm things are about simple living, and simple pleasures. Finding beauty in the ordinary. And while we can't all live on a farm, it's easy enough to get in touch with our farmhouse dreams.
Maybe I'll visit the Grower's Market today!
How about you?
Ciao! for now!

These pictures bring back so many warm memories of my grandparents farm house. I have always loved hanging clothes on the line, although I don't have a close line where I am now. Lovely and charming post.

Oh how I love these 'farm' pictures! My mother grew up on a farm and my husband and family did too. So, we're not far removed from farm life are we. Living in the country I get to enjoy the farm life going on all around me. Your photos are beautiful representations of farm life. Thank you! Blessings. Pamela
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pictures. I love those old clothes pins. I have some of my grandmothers old clothes pins sitting on my coffee table. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this Jacqueline! Oh, how i wish i did live on a little farm with a barn somewhere........I've got all the animals except the chickens, lol! Love the pictures, especially the ones of the house itself, so much character! Really enjoyed it!

Jacqueline ~ lovely images and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE farm living
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet memories. I was born on a farm and it holds such sweet memories for me. Great post. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your photos! I didn't live on a farm, but as a child I had horses that we kept at a farm. I spent every evening there riding and caring for my horses. This brings back wonderful memories.

What a great post! Sometimes these beautiful pictures create a false impression of the hours and energy involved in sustaining farm life, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteHi Jacquelin,
ReplyDeleteYou're right I think is the simplicity that seems so apealing. In a world of technology seeing simple mechanics of a piece of furniture or a utensil makes you consider what life was like many years ago. Uncomplicated and beautiful in a natural way because thats all that was available and a wonderful sense of recycling which has now turned full cycle. I have had a wonderful morning recycling a rather lovely lady's old slate roof....very kindly stripped by a builder and placed in a skip ready for me to stumble upon and give a new home to (I asked as I always do if it was ok for me to take it). I have just the place for all that lovely slate and I feel totally satisfied to be recycling and re-using this fantastic material.

You've caught the whole farmhouse vibe with this post, Jacqueline! I grew up on the prairies of Illinois, surrounded by farms and wheat and corn fields. My heart will always be there.

I grew up visiting my grandmother's farm, sigh, wish it was still in the family for grands to have the fun we did as kids.
ReplyDeleteNow I live in a pocket village surrounded by farms which is the best of both worlds. I travel over one line for fresh eggs and meat and we've just had a farmers' market start up last month for the first time.
I enjoyed this trip down memory lane.
So romantic! You are right you don't have to be a farmer to appreciate the look and the " work" involved. Beautiful photos.

That is so my favorite movie. I LOVE Places in the Heart. Sally Field is incredible in it and I LOVE LOVE Opossum. Wasn't she great? I even named one of my pretty chicks after her. Loved her accent.
ReplyDeleteLove all of your farm goodies.
So nice visiting with you tonight.
Love this post, Jacqueline! The wash on the line brought back many memories...
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always so beautiful and today you showed us your handsome kitty.
