Have you ever had guests that stayed too long? I get them all the time. They are all good looking and extremely charming. But they hang around way too long getting in the way and taking up space.
I'm talking about all the lovely things that take up room on my dining table, of course. I'm always bringing in new things for the shop that I just can't seem to move on for awhile. And sometimes never.
The truth is, I never really know the difference. I don't buy anything for the shop that I wouldn't own for myself.
But I do enjoy the visits! The laws of attraction (which have been scientifically studied) state that the primary factor in determining whether or not you end up with somebody is "propinquity." A fancy word for proximity. In other words, the chances of hooking up with your next door neighbor are much higher than dating someone from Australia (if you live in America, that is). Logical.
So it's no wonder I'm overly attracted to my table mates, and have a hard time kissing them good-bye! My own daughter married her next door neighbor.
There are very few things here at risk of being thrown out into the cold, however. But there's a limit to how many cakestands I can own, for instance. And ironstone platters are more practical for regular use than Limoges.
Some of my linens I would lay down my life for. I am surely devoted to this tablecloth. . . for the moment.
Ah, I am so fickle. But who isn't completely charmed by a gorgeously skirted table?
In this season of love I say love the one you're with, . . . at least until it's time to make room for new guests!
YOU'RE always welcome to stay as long as you like, of course!
Thanks so much for coming!
Ciao! for now!

Very cute post! I can't quite relate since I don't have storage enough to keep too many things. But if I could - I would! Is that wallpaper used as a napkin ring? Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI do always feel welcome here, embraced by your wonderful (and beautiful) hospitality.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Yes, Joyce! The napkin rings are made from vintage wallpaper. And thanks Brenda! Jacqueline
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics! Lovin' your cake stand and the dishes under cloche-enjoy your company:@)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and very pretty post!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you can have too many pretty things. I wish your shop were closer, I'd snap up the linens in a second!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
I always enjoy visiting your blog because you show so many pretty dishes and linens.
ReplyDeleteI was admiring the monogrammed napkins; how I'd love to find some with our initial.
That is exactly what i would do if i had a shop! Bring more home.....& when something would sell - i'd probably regret taking it in....lol - your post is cute! & i love the laws of attraction conversation....
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteYou answered one of the questions I always want to ask... how do you ever give anything up for the store:-)) I want to open a store (someday) and wonder if I will ever be able to part with things:-))
The Limoge shallow bowl, be still my heart!! and the plate stack under glass, I am heading into the kitchen to rearrange now!
I too believe in the law of proximity :-))
What a beautiful post!!
Have a great weekend,
Bella

Love those dishes - I have oohed and ahhhed over them in antique store in the midwest but never bought, unfortunately. My friend just looooves to remind me that I do not need more plates. :(

SALUDOS
Love your post. You have such a romantic eye.
ReplyDeleteJacqueline,
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. Your photos, and your guests, are all beautiful. I feel EXACTLY the same way about the things I buy and place in my shop. I buy what I like and what I'd want in my own home - and many, many times they visit my house for months and sometimes longer before they actually get placed in the shop.
This was so enjoyable not only to view but to read as well.
Going back to read it again,
Nancy

Hi Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteWhat a serene and lovely Pink Saturday Post. It was a joy to sit and read your blog and melt into the beautiful photos.
What a stunning idea using pretty wallpaper for napkin rings. Our imaginations are endless.
Thank you for sharing.
Cathy
Jacqueline, I know exactly what you mean! As you know, I am closing my shop space, and yesterday I even went to the shop to bring home some guests that I decided I just could not part with!!! Crazy! And I just got back from Funky Junk Sisters and only bought one retro white and pink table cloth to add to my collection. I'm so proud of myself! I love lacy, white cloths, but instead of those, I saw lots of burlap--not my thing particularly, unless it's a lighter color. Good! One less guest I'm tempted to invite home. My guests are really overtaking my home. I think while I sleep they must be partying and bringing in more!! Kay
ReplyDeleteSo simple, elegant and just beautiful. I am in love with your platter. Happy Pink Saturday, Char
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images, Jacqueline. I'm determined that I'm going to get to your shop the next time I plan a trip to Santa Fe. ~ Sarah
