On The Pier

I feel like a roving reporter! But I must say that blogging is a much quicker and fun way to write postcards. And you get to pick your own views to send!

We spent the entire day at the beach. What a parade! But we managed to pull ourselves away from the surf and off of our beach blankets long enough to investigate the pier. So many young people flock here. I can only imagine a weekend. This was midday on a Tuesday. About as crowded as you would ever want it. But a good opportunity for a language lesson, as there are lots of foreign visitors to beautiful San Diego.

Lots of blue found my camera today. I think it's even clicking quicker with all the happy colors around!

The Crystal Beach Hotel is located right on top of the pier.

I read the "private" sign with only a tad of irony. . . .

The loo is identified in a few different languages too. . . .

Grown kids constructed this castle with three round blocks of sand placed on top of each other. They were just perfect cylinders when we passed by in the morning. By six o'clock, viola!

Having a great time!
Wish you were here!

No Turning Back

Ocean Beach, San Diego. Seven p.m.. It's been a long travel day. A day of firsts.

There are the days that you will never forget for as long as you live. Perhaps only a handful.

Some, unforgettable because they are marred by tragedy. And others, because of remarkable beauty.

Perhaps one was the first time you ever visited the limitless sea . . .

 And meditated on infinity.

Or the day you introduced its joys to your own children. For we dwellers of the high and dry desert, such a moment is as to be caught up in the very swell of a lovely fairy story if you're of the right age.

And then one sweet day may come, perhaps late some summer evening.  You watch on as your offspring introduces the vastness of that universe to their own . . .

Wishing you beautiful new summer memories.

Summer Country

It takes only a few things to make for a fresh country summer feeling. It's different for everyone I suppose. For me, it's a few crisp vintage linens. An old wooden chair. An ironstone pitcher and bowl. And the great outdoors. . . .

I hope you're having a great country weekend!

Rachell Ashwell & A Little Mad Tea Party

I don't know if it's the umbrella or what that makes me feel like this table is a little Mad Hatterish minus the hats. I did end up with an awful lot on the table. One thing leads to another. But life is so like that.

It could be the July heat that's making things feel a little crazy. It looked deceptively cool out under the trees on the lawn. But it's a hundred degrees!

I've been wanting to showcase this tablecloth for awhile. It's an old Rachel Ashwell pattern from years ago. It has ruffles and is all pinky cheery, but it's a bit dark for her style. And it ends up being quite busy. So Mad Hatter it is!

I got a couple of the umbrellas in the same pattern at the same time for the little girls. We use them more for sun than rain here. When you're stationed on the lawn the sun does what it wants, and you can pop up a little shade to relieve the madness.

Edith Holden's Country Diary.

We have a TON of birthdays starting now.

I tossed in a bunch of white to soften things up.

Vintage sheers, tea cloths, and chiffon pillows make for fun and frills.

The mark on my china says "Royal Pettau" Germany US Zone. It's inheritance china.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
I'm off to party now!
See you around!
