Humble Old Glass & Old Brown Transferware

I'm always on the lookout for nice old chippy furniture for the shop, but on the way I come across endearing old things that demand my attention. This beautiful milk glass compote, for instance. Great for whole fruit or Easter displays, but I just might serve a nice potato salad right in it!

A couple of nice big heavy ironstone jugs sit next to it on the table while I'm figuring out my next move. The smaller pitcher in front is still manufactured in France. I like the way they look grouped together.

I have long ago stopped adding to my bottle collection, but these are especially nice samples and were basically a giveaway.

A chippy old brown transferware platter for a small price makes a great display piece too.

I have brought them over to the window on this cloudy day to give you a better look.

These are a great size and shape for embellishment, but it was the embossed writing on them that drew me in closer.

"Taylor Bros., Leading Druggists, Stevens Point, Wis." in beautiful script writing.

The one far left reads"Drake Brothers Co., Milwaukee," also in pretty script. Seems like I have inherited someones favored collection.

They all fit in nicely with the other things I have sitting at this end of the dining room like they all grew up together!

Newer porcelain bowls made in France blend right in with the rest and are more practical for daily use. Everybody's happy!

I just love it when yard sales and fleamarkets spring up again this time of year, don't you?

Happy hunting!

Jacqueline

  2. Your ironstone is so pretty, and I love looking at your collections. The bottles are real finds! I am looking forward to garage/yard sale season, but this year, I am going to HAVE to get rid of stuff, so we'll be hosting at least one, ourselves.

PS - I am eagerly awaiting the Flea markets & yard sales! But in CO it is usually around Mothers Day before we can be assured of warm weather~ Perhaps sooner this year?, we shall see!

  8. Jacqueline,
your finds are beautiful! Especially love the brown transfer ware with all the crazing! Ironstone is always such a treat to come across, your pitchers are wonderful, what a fun find to add to your collection. I too have a small collection of vintage bottles, some I found buried around the early 1910 Queen Ann style farmhouse we owned in NC. Nothing better then finding things to add to our favorite collections, especially at a great price!

  9. I like the pitchers grouped together. I only have one that qualifies as antique but I do love pitchers too- especially with flowers in them! Love the grouping on the chair with the brown transferware and bottles.

  11. Hi Jacqueline
And does it get any better then a piece of stoneware or a beautiful bottle? I love the brown and stained white transferware it's just a natural year around look. As for your ironstone up against the beautiful dark pieces in your kitchenette it's always what has drawn me into taking a longer Look all you collect and display. I always love painting most of my darker pieces but in your case and your setting these pieces need to stay as is in their beautiful state.

I love making groupings out of my stoneware, unfortunately not all of my pieces are vintage its Califronia and popular in collecting so when one finds a piece you grab it, so I tend to mix some newer pieces and hand thrown pieces to the bunch making some pieces usable more often then not in my entertaining.

Keep inspiring your beauty, I think it's about time for another spring tour of your kitchen and dinning area ? :)

    Xx
