Burning The Midnight Oil~Dusting Off The Old Hutch

It's not really midnight! Only five pm.. But I will be at it a bit longer for sure.

I'm just so proud of my nice clean dining room. Housework isn't the center of my life anymore (thank goodness!), but nobody else does it for me yet.

I'm sharing a few family secrets here. Dusting is about the last thing that gets done regularly. I keep my furniture covered where practical, and just switch out the linen on this cupboard when tall people come! Haha!

You wouldn't see it at all without the lamp light in the late afternoon. But I have just de-junked it and left the often used items on top. Looks so fresh now!

One of my fav biscuit jars. It reminds me of my granddaughter Daisy who is one of my expected visitors.

One of my rewards for a job well done is a surprise Austin rose that Mr. Cottage brought in from the garden. How thrilling!

You can see in this shot at the side of the cupboard that it is still daylight.

I was amazed to get any shots at all, so I just kept going to show you my hutch all straightened up too.

As you can plainly see, not much has changed otherwise. The only thing "fall-ified" so far is the addition of a bit of ornamental corn poking out.

The pitcher top and center is a recent addition, as is the English milk jug just below.

The old ironstone cafe cup is a new favorite mixed in with the same old things. And my dried eucalyptus lasts forever!

I have a teeny weeny cottagey kitchen with very little storage, and so this is a hard working hutch and dresser too!

Just about finished with my fall cleaning.

Feels so good!

And so nice to have a visit from you!
I hope you're having a great week!

Jacqueline

  1. I hope to attack my cupboard that holds my brown transferware tomorrow. I'm thinking ahead to Christmas decorating -- our home will be on a charity Christmas tour Dec. 6th, so I need to clear the way for some Christmas stuff. Thankfully, brown transferware looks good with pinecones!!! Hope balloon festival was a fun weekend for you. Sally

  3. I think you know how I feel about your beautiful hutch. Have I told you one hundred times? :b The little biscuit jar is so gorgeous. My new favorite item on the hutch now. Tomorrow I should dust as you've inspired me. Hugs, Deb

  4. I'm not keen on dusting either! I like to change up linens and doilies as well. The only work is ironing. I like your salt and pepper shakers under the cloche! Lovely pieces. Thanks for sharing. Diane

  5. It is lovely to get a big peek at your whole collection (or all you have out today!) while they are shiny... so beautiful! I have little white jug envy:-) I remember well when you got that Eucalyptus, I wanted some and looked everywhere! But, what takes the cake is your sweet Mr.'s rose gift... a beautiful bloom and so so sweet of him!!
    Hugs :-)

  6. I love your beautiful hutch! We moved from our house with an itty bitty kitchen last month to a new to us house with a big kitchen. I had every square inch of my little kitchen so well organized to fit everything in it that I'm a bit befuddled with all of this space and options!

  10. Jacqueline, your fall cleaning has been on my mind to get busy with a good cleaning as well.
Funny you should right about this topic, I was mentioning to my daughter Hannah that I need to really do some deep cleaning, degreasing all the things above the stove on the cabinets and really get down and dirty and clean all my baseboards that really get over looked here.
Of course we here in blog land never notice the dust in your home just the beauty in your fine collecting. but it's sure makes you feel great knowing when you snap those beautiful photos that your home is equally perfect.

Your hutch looks divinely filled with what makes my heart skip a beat or two, your ironstone collection is wonderful to look at and I know I'm your kitchen it adds all the rightness to the beauty you surround yourself with.

Have a beautiful weekend my dear, see you soon.

Happy fall to you, and your tiny touches in the corn and the dried greenery in the mustard jar is perfectly fall enough for this setting.

    Xx

  12. Dresser scarves are a great 'secret' idea to keep the dust at bay but they start to look a bit grey after a while as I know from experience. I shook a couple out the other day and, phew!, what a cloud of dust! LOL Your hutch always looks beautiful in white. Have a wonderful weekend.
