Farmhouse White Egg-stravaganza

Okay, I just have to confess that I've never enjoyed coloring eggs all that much. But I do love the natural colors of bird and chicken eggs, and even the occasional duck or goose egg that crosses my path. (We kept a few of the above once upon a time.) Our lovely Rhode Island Reds are all gone now, but I love their pale brown eggs best. I like having them in the house this time of year. (The brown eggs I mean, haha!) The eggs don't need to be any other color for me.

But I really did want to decorate some artificial white eggs this year like the lovely ones from Jeanne D'Arc Living, with the lettering and lace and such. All I can say is "Not gonna happen."

That won't stop me from feeling all French country farmhouse and cozying up to the white ones I have on hand. I'm always saving the cartons, both from habit and from thinking I will do something fancy with them. But that never happens either!

I actually like the grey paper cartons that our organic eggs come in, but I wish the graphics and lettering were more attractive and to my taste as well. Seems like we are all drawn to old vintage graphics on packages because more style and effort was put into producing things in the old days. (Before my time for sure!!!) And I also like the beautiful simple aesthetic of an old wire egg gathering basket.

After casting around for a pretty paper cover for the tops of my cartons I finally just glued a big paper doily over and tied it up with ribbon. Colored eggs or not, it makes a cheery and pretty way to transport decorated eggs. (You could do it in your favorite colors!)

A gathering of a few things from my farmhouse collections matches my mood. I don't have the Hoosier cabinet to go with them, but I have a small collection of these wonderful Hoosier jars from the thirties. A homespun cloth with a crochet trim from near the same era completes the scene.

Add a few bits of crockery and I am transported to another place and time. . . .

Welcome to my farmhouse white egg-stravaganza!

No need to fuss that much. A few of the old graphics peeking out don't bother me.

One of my favorite transferware biscuit jars with daisies. Just perfect to hide away little goodies!

Speggtacular, speggtacular!

I hope it's a special weekend for you. . . .

Happy Easter!!

  1. Last Easter I boiled white eggs for Easter and kept them white. I had never seen anyone do it before. I had them in a tray with seashells. I think I will do the same this year. I love white! But I may tie some lace around each one.

    Happy Eastertide

  3. A lovely gathering of special things!! When my kids were young, we made a dye from boiling onion skins.....then we cooked the eggs in it, and I still remember the beautiful beige coloring with a tint of yellow to it. Those eggs were a big hit!!! I always save the gray paper cartons, come in handy for lots of things....Happy Easter!!

  8. Loving the eggstravaganza an NICE SAVE with the doily! I had to laugh when you said you saved those egg cartons because I brought a tote bag up from the basement yesterday with cartons I THOUGHT were full of blown out or wooden eggs and they were all empty! Ones I'd saved from last year. Go figure!

I do like the process of coloring eggs and tucking them in my baskets when giving out but if I had the sweet natural blues, I suspect I'd forego the dipping. (I think we have the most fun with the egg dipping because we're eating pizza, drinking beer or wine and know when we're done we'll watch Life of Brian. Must have been doing that for 15 years or more! Rick dips his raw and I might try it this year. You can only use so many deviled eggs!

  16. Very pretty white eggs and lace.
I often color my eggs with tea, each cup has a different tea; so the colors are subtly different in soft natural tones. This year will be the first year in many that I actually am going to use colors because I have a little one looking for them in the garden and the colors will show up better. I think next year will be back to tea colored eggs, I will miss them this year.

A white Easter, I couldn't imagine you any other way! Lovin' that Daisy bisquit jar and covering the carton with a doily is pure charm (what isn't made better with a crisp doily, I just don't know!) :-)
