An Old Transferware Plate, Linens and Lace

I sometimes feel like I am peering straight through a window of time when I find an old transferware treasure like this one. Old birds on a small plate with a crack running through it that so far no one has ever been able to give up on.

Years of appreciation seem to have seeped into its crackled glaze and penetrated the woodland scene embedded on its surface adding to the weight of the ironstone. And now I have eagerly taken on the pleasant task of admiring keeper.

No signature of the maker on the back, but only the mark of age. It's the sort of thing to find on the stone ledge of the fireplace in an old French farmhouse kitchen. . . .

I found a few other bits of the fanciful past this week and piled them into a vintage suitcase for show.

I can't tell you how many of these vintage beauties have passed through my hands over time, but this one had the right tone for showing off the wares to advantage.

I needed a nice dark background to contrast with the sheer flocked curtain panel I discovered at the thrift store.

It has a nice ivory hue and is full of small nicks in the fabric. Just the sort of thing for nesting old objects in.

A major fascination here is this airy applique table cover of Madeira embroidery. I found two together. The other one is shown better at the bottom of the post. I adore the leafy pattern!

Nothing like a jumble of vintage artifacts thrown together to add to the pleasures of life!

A beautiful ironstone sauce pitcher rests upon a pair of lace-edged pillowcases.

The layered cloths form a dreamy cloud cascading over the lid of the open suitcase.

An old clock from the thirties suspended in time.

Another little vintage baby gown with tatted detail at the neck and cuffs is nestled here.

And a luscious linen pillowcase with a favorite monogram. Only one.

A pile of frothy white is impossible to photograph well, but I had to include the teeny little dolly gowns I found hiding away for me on a shelf together. Light as fairy wings!

With a few handmade stitches in time. . . .

So nice that you popped by for a look! And thank you so much for all the great comments about our little brown house in the last post. I was so pleased to learn about how many of you have attachments to New Mexico and it's many enchantments.

I hope it's been a good Groundhog Day week for you!

Wishing you happy thoughts of spring!

Jacqueline

You value the treasure that they are It amazes me how such delicate baby and doll dresses have lasted this long...you must lose your breath every time you find them. The plate makes me sigh...the birds are of such artwork. Truly lovely finds.
