Charming Chippy China

I've been out skimming the markets a lot lately looking for vintage ornaments. Can you ever have enough? But I must say I have mostly come up empty handed. The upside is that I have come across a few other fun things like some pretty pieces of chippy china.

It's fun to load up on items that may not be in good enough condition to present as a gift alone, but when filled with soaps, flowers, or edible goodies make a cheery presentation.

And while you're thinking of the perfect gift, or considering the right person, a pile of pretty chippy dishes sitting around is as cheerful as a bouquet of flowers! (Well, almost. . . )

I  am seriously in love with a pale worn design on something with a few age spots thrown in. It would also make a great soap dish.

The muted colors blend beautifully and are wonderful in any season.

And of course I have a thing for the interesting markings underneath too!.

I wonder if I will be able to give away this darling romantic pitcher? (My life is just full of these little mysteries!) But I can just see it full of cellophane wrapped cookies with a satin bow attached.

I love considering all the sweet details in ironstone china at close range, like at your bedside for instance. This little platter would make a great place to stow a few pretty luxuries next to your pillow at night. Or a sweet tea-tray-for-one, before sleep.

Makes for pretty sweet dreams. . . .

Really, some of these items, like this platter, were found at a "junk store" in perfect condition for very little money (like two to four dollars, or even less.) That's pretty cheery all by itself!

And it's the weekend!

Happy hunting!

I hope it's a cheery one for you. . . .

Jacqueline

  2. I loved this post, Jacqueline. The dishes are gorgeous. I am in the middle of packing up many loved dishes and china to store away while we move. Only to see them again when I unpack. I love your ideas for gift-giving. Deb

  4. I just love your chippy china. I have a weakness, but resist most often. Occasionally something just jumps into my hands and I can't resist. Recently found a serving bowl and small platter such as this for only $2. How can a girl resist.
Beautiful pitcher, would love full of flowers.

  8. The china is perfectly imperfect! I'm with you, I love the faded and the aged. What a great idea to fill up with goodies for Christmas!

  10. Beautiful! And I totally agree! When I see a beautiful piece that has a handle glued back on, it doesn't turn me off to it. I figure it was loved enough to be repaired instead of thrown away and it is still pretty and useful. And then a take it home! Ha.

  11. Jacqueline, there is nothing better in the world than finding a perfect (in your eyes only) little something that you can add to your collection. And if I see some crazing or a few age spots, it is just like looking in a mirror! What excitement!..Happy Sunday..Judy
