In The Field~LaurieAnna's Vintage Home

Good news! We got to LaurieAnna's at Canton Texas!

There was a traffic jam in town on Saturday afternnoon. (Peak time for visitors to the flea market on "First Mondays.") But we found a good route with our GPS navigator to the shop we traveled many long miles to visit for the first time.

Texas is huge and flat, with much barren land between our house and LaurieAnna's.

A photo op stop at this ancient picturesque church on a wayside hilltop seemed only necessary. (Even though the wind was so wild that day it almost knocked me over.)

You know you are a long way from anywhere when you see a road sign like this one. . . .

The wind turned into a serious sand storm.

We could see the approach for desolate miles, looking more like smoke rising up from a brush fire and darkening the sun.

Tumbling tumble weeds by the score. (I coughed and cleared my throat all the next day.)

I wanted to show you pictures of our visit to the shop too, but none are allowed. Something was said about an insecurity about competitors. But seriously. There was no one else I was trekking to see! And who on earth could possibly compete? I mean, really. Have you been to LaurieAnna's???

All the photos here are from the website. They told me they were there, and apparently consider them adequate. I assure you they are not.

So I have failed to reveal the current general splendor to you. But it did leave me free to gape. (As all the other pilgrims were doing.) And yes. . . Oh yes. . . . I laid some money down. (*insert big happy smile*)

Among other things I brought home a few of these little bunnies under the dome. . . .

And a couple ruffled pillow shams.
(Can't stay away from the linens!)

More fun and games tomorrow...

Happy Sunday!

Jacqueline

  1. What a shame to drive all that distance thru the sand storm to this
beautiful shop and not be able to take pictures. I would have been devastated (but I do have a very small camera that fits-hides in the palm of my hand and I never use flash).

  5. Lucky you. I would just love to visit her shop, but Texas is a wee bit far so I just have to drool over the internet. xo Laura

  7. It's really lovely and so, too, are the pix from your road trip. But I have to say, I tend to avoid purchasing from shops that don't allow photos. I was at one yesterday (and this was a gourmet grocery store, of all things -- not like they thought I might steal ideas for displays!). It seems shortsighted and a little silly in this day and age of safe digital photography. I can perhaps understand more at art galleries or places where artists may feel their copyright and creativity is at stake. Even so, everyone learns somewhere. I would hope that they would feel the good vibes of a person who loved their store and would want to share it.

  8. Canton is definitely on my list. Did you know there's an app? It gives you the calendar and a map of the area, as well as how to get there. I was pleasantly surprised when it also gave me a notification at the end of March to remind me it was coming up.

  11. ... and you tossed that iron bed in for me, yes? :)

How wonderful to visit in person, Jacqueline. If I ever take the southern route to Cali again, I'll have to ask you for a list of your favorite shops to visit!

  13. Oh my, you were in Texas and I didn't get to see you, Boo Hoo. I know you had a blast at Laurie Anna's though. Isn't her place full of inspiration. Did you enjoy Canton and find lots of goodies. Love the little church, hope you don't mind if I share it. Happy Sunday.

  14. Just from these photos I know I would love this place too. Disappointed they wouldn't let you take photos though. Hope you got some great ideas to use for your own. Love finding old buildings like that church, oh my just wonderful. There is something in me that wants to rescue these buildings that are being allowed to disappear.

  16. Jacqueline, the photos of your dusty road trip made me chuckle as only someone who lives in Texas can appreciate. It is a big state! '-)
I'm happy for you that you got to go to LaurieAnna's Vintage Home. I find it snobbish when a shop keeper says no when you ask to take photos. What is it they are afraid of sharing? They should be pleased and honored that their clients feel compelled to emulate and share the beauty of their shop. After all that's what marketing is all about. Right?

  18. Visiting that store is on my wish list for "someday"! Glad you had a nice trip! Lots of vendors in Brimfield are like that too and do not allow photos!

    Love this post.

  21. Oh what a lovely shop, Jacqueline. I love the potting area and also the wonderful vintage luggage. (And, frankly, I would have been out of my car and chasing than tumble weed down the road to bring home and string faery lights through in my garden! hahahaha) So glad you had a fun day there. What a beautiful and forbidding landscape. That church must be filled with memories. Hoping you have a lovely week.

  22. Oh, such a shame...but the photos you shared from the website are very enticing. Many shops are forbidding photos these days - a sign of the times... I am in love with those pillows with the old lace. Can't wait to see what you do with your new lovelies. That old church looks so lonesome, but your photo would look wonderful framed. Hope you have a lovely start to your week. Hugs xo Karen

  23. Hello Jacqueline
Thank you for going through a sandstorm and such scary weather to bring us an account of this wonderful store. I know I would have spent some cash too.

    Have a great week

    Helen xx

  24. I agree, it's rather disappointing to go all that way and then have to use pictures off their web site. When someone asks me if they can take a pictures in my shop I say "yes"...first off I'm glad they liked the idea and secondly I got it from somewhere too! It just has my spin on it...like we all do. At least you got a great photo of that wonderful old church!!!

  26. Jacqueline,
Thank you for sharing your Road Trip with us. It has been nearly 40 years since I lived in the State of Texas. . .and survived a few of those sand storms!!!
I know shop owners want to keep their originality and uniqueness, but think this one "missed the boat" on the amount of "free" advertising that a blog provides!
I know it cast a "dark cloud" over your visit.
Now, dear friend, reveal those "treasures" soon, please!
    Fondly,
    Pat

  27. That sand storm must have been scary to be in. Love the photos of the old church. It looks so lonely. The shop has some beautiful treasures.

  28. Loved this post on Laurieanna's. I was there on Friday of the April weekend and asked to take pictures and denied too. I agree with you that their blog's pictures are not adequate to convey the uniqueness and loveliness of that store. I'm only 2 or 3 hours away so I find excuses to go there 3 or 4 times a year. We'll be in ABQ early Summer and I'll be stopping by your shop for sure.
