Containers & A Few New Finds

I'm getting more of a happy balance in my rooms this year. The war I wage between light and dark influences is coming to a peaceful ceasefire these days. The door you see here was painted white awhile back, for instance, and makes all the difference for enhancing other wood elements that I really love.

But I'm actually showing off a few new things that I found this season that are tucked away in corners about the place as well. Don't you just love an old harvest basket? I found this one a few weeks ago. It came with this luscious cherry patina. It's full of pinecones from our recent forage in the woods.

There's always this part of me inside that lives in an old English storybook and wants harvest baskets full of potatoes and onions stacked about, and goods hanging from the rafters. So homey.

I have this thing for containers obviously. Old crates, bins, boxes, and such. You never know when you will need one, and so they they get tucked into corners and under tables.

The grandgirls gathered a few acorns when they were here too.

I recently uncovered this gorgeous Wallace silverplate (Sonata 1947) and polished the spoons up. I think I'm going to have to trade something else out in order to keep them!

I like storage that looks good in plain sight.

I had some kind of a lapse and almost didn't buy this chippy zinc coal bucket last week. WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!

Another stack of stand-bys. . . . The big wash tub on bottom is a new acquisition from late summer. Very old. Very heavy. The rest has been hanging around awhile.

I have a bit to chose from for my holiday displays of greens, gifts, trees, and vignettes. In the meantime, everything's ready to contain whatever gets brought in for making ready!

Today I'm working on ideas for paper cones. . . .

I hope you're off to the start of a wonderful November!
So nice that you came by!

  1. Hi Jacqueline, lovely post as always! I have a basket exactly like that beautiful one you have pinecones in. Mine is in the attic! Sad that it is, but there is no nook or cranny or corner anywhere in the house for it at the moment. I do have pinecones in a large wire urn (a kind of basket) on my buffet, though! As you know, I have a thing for baskets, too, and bowls! Something about containers!! I do love your balance of dark and light. As much as I love white, I don't think I could ever have all white. Your space is perfect!

  5. I agree with "time worn interiors". Your photos are SO inspiring. I've been seeing those buckets that you call an olive bucket on others' blogs...Where can I get one of those?

  6. Lovely post. Your pine cones are just waiting to show off in a Christmas post. What a lovely wall hanging cone shape you have with a simple piece of pine fir tucked in it, so pretty.

  10. Such lovely containers, Jacqueline, and so beautiful displayed. My grandson and I picked large fat pine cones on Saturday morning. I love the way they can say AUTUMN or WINTER or CHRISTMAS, depending on how you display them. Yours look so pretty in that harvest basket. Wishing you a lovely first week of November.

  20. I know I must have said this before in the two years I have been following you, but we are such "Kindred spirits!" I feel the same way about the storybook homey feel and hanging things. I would sit and stare at that hutch all day, so much dreamy eye candy. Your posts are ethereal.
