Patio Chairs in the Dining Room~Lazy Hazy Crazy Days

I looked it up. Nat King Cole's song was #6 in the summer of 1963. Those days of soda and pretzels and beer. Well, not beer for me in '63. But the days are getting pretty lazy lately. I suppose the first days of summer always hit me like that. And the hazy part can't last long because soon we will be all the way into crazy. There is never enough summer to go around!

But first things first! With all the new light and air coming into my dining room I decided to up the ante by moving out all of my old oak chairs and bringing in the metal patio seats. It's a look I've always wanted to try. And much easier than painting everything white. I knew it had made a difference when Mr. C&C sailed through and said "wow"! (The Mr. doesn't usually notice too much in the way of domestic changes. . . .  Just sayin'. . .)

Before

Then comes the closeups of stuff on the table, because I have failed a tad on my vow to keep things cleared off. But I SWEAR!!!! it's all only temporary.

I stuck one of my new antique engravings of Venice into the empty frame. Who knows what will be there tomorrow? Summer is short!

I have long enjoyed the subtleties of white on white. And this week on the table I have layered a vintage tablecloth embroidered in dragonflies and lily pads. Oh, so first week of June!

What I, myself, may lack in artifice, I make up for in appreciation. Nobody loves beautifully worked linen more than I!

Finally, life is full of contrast, and a room should be too. A heavy commodious cupboard keeps everything from floating away. For now.

Lazy, hazy, or crazy. I wish that summer. . .
could always. . . be heeere!

How'z it goin' for you so far?

Hope it's good.

Jacqueline

  6. I am all up into those linens too. The patio set is genius in the dining room. I cannot seem to keep tables or buffets streamlined or clear myself and have decided that is OKAY.

  7. I love the patio chairs in your dining-room. May I just say that heavy cupboard is GORGEOUS!! I bet there are more white dishes in there that I need to see. I always like getting a glimpse of your china cupboard and shelves. Beyond beautiful. I would be playing there for ever.

  9. Hi Jacqueline: I've started humming that song and will keep it up until another comes along!! Love the white with that little bit of dark wood. A person does need contrast in their life, along with lots of summer, and that cloth is gorgeous..Happy Wednesday..Judy

I wish I could make some summer changes around my home. But with kids so young, all I do right now is picking up toys ;-)

  26. The patio chairs look really good - very summery. Here it's pouring with rain and looks like doing so for the forseeable future - the hot, lazy, hazy days of summer are notable for their absence at the moment!
    Hmm,summer of 1963 - I was 16 going on 17. Seems like yesterday.

  27. We've had a quiet respite from the hot days of summer; yesterday and today we've had cool temps and soft 'walk in the garden' showers.

I love it in the morning when the rain drop cling to the rose petals...or when the Crepe Myrtles are weighted down by the sogginess of the blooms.
Love the weight of the cupboard mixed with the airiness of the table and chairs!

--enjoying the lazy days of summer,Pat

  28. This was an absolutely gorgeous post!!! As all yours always are. Just got back from UT. When you were there, did you get to the Thanksgiving point Gardens? If not, you've got to go next time. Amazing---but what made me mention it was your lily pad and dragon fly on the linens. There were numerous lily pads blooming in the ponds. They were so beautiful. It was in the 90's there and sunny and wonderful. Got back here---it's pouring and 53 and very dark! Love the light look with the outdoor furniture in the dining room. I can enjoy summer on your blog, since it doesn't exist here.
    Love, Kay
