Brown English Transfer Ware

I hope you're enjoying the long weekend if you're getting one! We took a little getaway to visit my daughter for her birthday, and got in a bit of shopping as well.

A fleamarket in her neighborhood turned up a few Euro treasures including this old English transferware pot. Her small town in New Mexico might be a surprising spot for something like this, but you never know where you will find things! That's the thrill of junking!

My strategy when I am not under pressure in a quiet market is to survey everything, and then quickly do a second round making a decision on what to pick up. Did I have any doubt about this little gem, even with a good sized chip missing?  Nawww!

There are so many ways to display a stocky piece of ironstone like this. And fall is the perfect time for brown transferware! (Do I say that every season?)

Already quite at home, this piece will be front and center on the table top for a few days. I love the romantic ship and leaf motifs. Both sides are the same.

It's so nice that you stopped by for a peek!
 Have a wonderful week!
Ciao! for now!

Nice find. I do love transferware in almost any color except pink. I looked at some at Scott's antiques last weekend, but they had extremely high prices on them. I will just keep hunting for a better price.

A beautiful fall display!

I was wondering if anyone would mention what it is...it is indeed a chamber pot or what the English call a "gezunda" slang for "goes under...the bed". But who cares! I have a whole set of antique Spode including chamber pot and waste bucket in my living room...they are far too beautiful to hide! LOL!

Jacqueline,
Gorgeous piece...great find! Sometimes the chip adds character to a piece. Such a lovely vignette you have arranged. Your talents in staging are always so tranquil. Soothing hues...perfect for Autumn.

Great transferware! I never mind a few chips or even a crack now and then, only shows someone dearly loved the piece!

I am obsessed with brown and cream transferware right now...it happens every fall to me, but somehow I have not found any in my local area. I may have to resort to buying it online, but it is so much more fun to find it like you did thrifting! Congrats!

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! I actually went on a treasure hunt today for a few more pieces of brown transferware. I have enough to fill my hutch for Fall but wanted just a bit more. It's hard for me to move the red and whites, is that crazy?
Love your photos as always , xxx

I love the thunder pot! I recently bought one at an auction in blue and white and will be listing it in my Etsy shop. They make great containers for floral arrangements these chamber pots, and some are exquisitely decorated. Oh, that was how the rich did it back in those days!!
